the 172 could stop quicker than most exotica could at the time, couldnt it? due to its fancy electrics...
You mean dropping a 172 F4R lump into a Mk1 Shell I presume? Otherwise i've covered it.you left out the mk1 172!![]()
They do handle well but people like to go lower and changing to aftermarket suspension components can improve the handling still. Thanks for that post bmh.01, great stuff!
All I need to know really is how well the 172FF handles. I've yet to have a car with ABS, i've yet to have a car with A/C so it's hardly like I will miss them.
The cup's are cheaper to buy which is a good thing but if I'm doing a 25 mile commute in the summer I may want A/C.
I've seen a few people on cliosport mention they have changed the springs on their cup. Why? Thought they handled well as standard???
I do love cup blue paint though![]()

I like to be able to unsettle the car with the brake pedal

Get yourself a MK1 clio, the only proper clio they made!![]()
What's the reason F1 cars don't have ABS? Is that just to do with the FIA regulations?
You would think if it was better and they were allowed it, they would have it.
It would make driving to easy and therefore detract from the racing (e.g. the possibility of someone braking too heavily and locking a wheel going into a corner).
F1 is goverend by regs that mean that all the fancy stuff like ground effect, full slicks, traction control etc are banned.
ABS = the most pointless trash ever invented for a car. I have a full fat 172 and hate the ABS. I've been driving for 17 years, 14 before the Clio and its the thing I hate most about the car. Go over a bump when you're on the brakes - judder judder. Hit the brakes going into a corner - judder judder. Hit the brakes in snow when you actually do want to skid - judder judder.
Conclusion. The damn things are rubbish and if you need them then you shouldnt be on the road imo.
