just arrived..my personal review of 3870x2

Okies, sapphire HD3870X2 was picked up today, but I've not got any time to instal till later tonight. I'm curious to see how it performs with a low power (Enermax noisetaker 485w) psu, I'll not bother trying to overclock it at all until I get a higher power version, Corsair 1620w looks promising, I just wanna see what it goes like at stock.
I've already downloaded the latest cats 8.1 drivers and the hotfix too (I assume the hotfix is installed directly after the driver installation).:)

Haha, that would cost a packet too.

If it is the 15MB hotfix (the 0.4s) then you just install them after the normal 8.1s yeah.

In general, AMD looks to have done a decent job with CrossfireX, but the down side is that to me, it is about as useless as knobby tires on the aforementioned Enzo (Editor - This I want to see!). Why? It only works with the broken OS, Vista. Due to the Malware and DRM infestation in that OS, they changed how video works on a fundamental level.

This means that the CrossfireX architecture will have to be completely redone if they want an XP version, something they deemed not worth doing at this point, and I hate to say that I agree with the decision, but I do. That said, because of this, you are never going to see more than 2 GPUs working on XP making CrossfireX pointless to anyone not liking the malware that comes with Vista. That would be me

Got mine up and running !!gone straight for the 8.2cats , card is at stock with all settings as 8.2 installed them , anything worth turning off to get a few more points , quite pleased as it is about 3500 points more than my 0C2 and that water at 650/2000

just seen how many people were talking about 3870x2. im not going to upgrade to it as i only use 19" screen.

Just want to ask you guys do you enjoy it ? do you think it was good buy for your money? and is it better then gtx?

Thats really bad , talk about forcing people to buy new hardware , are there any adaptors around ?

Can get adaptors on the bay. To be honest not much point, the overclocks that are available make little to no difference.

900 ram to 955

825 core to 878 core.

Just upgraded from a GTX 0C2 to the x2 and so far i am well pleased apart from needing a 8 pin connector aswell as the standard 6 pin to unlock overdrive , just had a blast on cod4 and it played really smooth

I enjoy mine, somethig about having 2 gpu's on one card that makes me think of my time with the voodoo 5. As for better than gtx, ive owned an ultra and to be honest hard to say, framerates were high on the ultra theyre equally high on this. Id say having 2 machines side by side one running the x2 and one running an ultra you'd be hard pressed to say what is running what as the framerates are really fast on both.

I went from a GT and i'm left wondering if the 3870 series really does have a problem with AA. I run games with large amounts on and get good performance. I know it's a three year old game but World of Warcraft gives me a constant 60fps with 16xAA and 16xAF, and it looks really good.

It's certainly a good boost from a GT, somewhere around 50% i'd say. :)
