We hate Valentines thread

I JUST GOT THE BIGGEST CARD EVER!!!

From an 11 year old.......

Ah well, theres always the postman!

In all seriousness, it really doesnt bother me, not fussed and wouldnt be if I had a bloke either. (Honest!)
:D

What is pap is that champagne and chocolates are all on specil offer but beer, whisky, gin and curry isn't.

Even when I've had a girl friend I've hated Valentines day and never celebrated it. Its just so shallow it is sickening.

Down with VD (Valentines Day) lol

Read somewhere that flower and chocolate shops put their prices up by about 37% specially for it. Probably explains why a sheet of paper cost me near £2 yesterday.

I hate Valentines because its a meaningless date that really doesn’t mean anything to anyone unless your lucky and your anniversary is on this day then I can understand it having some meaning to your relationship. Birthdays mean something because it’s a date related to your self.

Seeing all the sells out people taking there loved ones out for dinner, buying gifts, cards flowers etc is a joke to me. I just think that if you have someone special in your life why not show them on the dates that mean something to you or better out of the blue not when the fat cats tell us its ok to show love lol. I know I'll get some people jump on this post with some reason justifying Valentines day but really I don’t care in my mind its silly. Hearing on the radio this morning about 4 women saying that "if there man forgets there dumped...." sorry that’s shallow. I'm sure that if you only showed love on Valentines day and treated your partner like crap the rest of the year and never went out etc everyone would be more then happy...maybe not :D

Anyway Rant over..... I better rush out and buy a card flowers ,book a table somewhere.... I don’t think so :D

Oh I got a card for my GF thou (sellout) :D

Hi, my name's Alex and I'm a Valentines Day hater because every damned time something's looking up, it seems to have a habit of going wrong around Valentines day, or if you're alone for whatever reason, nearly everyone who does have someone is parading it in your face for the entire period, and making you feel pretty miserable.

I'm Alex and I hate the mac....errrr Valentine's Day. ;)

PS. Even my manager today suggested I perhaps book the week off every year from next year given the stuff that usually happens to me, to try and relax for the week.

People that parade the fact they have someone on this day are out of order to single people. I hate this day and I have girlfriend. Also it does seem a time of year were people suddenly release that they don’t like the relationship they were in even thou is was perfectly fine before hand its all strange........ Valentines causes problems also as normally I always read about some poor sod that topped them self because of being dumped or this time of year getting to them.

Oooo look at me. I'm just so unconformist the thought of celebrating any day which is moderately commercial disgusts me. I mean, how totally capitalist of everyone to support it. Mindless drones all conforming to the norm clearly too ignorent of how such conformity is a social disease.

We need to fight the machine, man.

I presume you are suggesting that the OP is posing as a non-conformist rather than simply being ****ed off at the cynical profiteering surrounding this made-up celebration? If that's the case you'd better include me in this too. Only thing is, I'm not posing, I refuse to have greedy advertisers and salespeople tell me when it's appropriate for me to show my affection and how I should do it.

If I want to show my affection towards a member of the opposite sex, I will do it when it suits us and in a manner of my/our choosing. I will not be told by card makers or florists when and how I should do so.

You got one thing right, the "mindless drones" bit. Don't you think that buying expensive gifts and cards for someone you care about simply because it's February the 14th makes you a free thinking independent soul? It doesn't, it makes you a mindless drone. "Oooo, it's February the 14th, Clinton cards and Interflora say I need to buy a card and some flowers to show my girlfriend how much I care or I'm a bad boyfriend. Where's my wallet?"

Sucker!!

Being single on valentines day is so much better than fannying about trying to keep a woman happy. I love it.

Seconded :p

Meh my girlfriend has gone home to France for her brothers 30th birthday do, so I cooked her dinner last night. Given that I love cooking and enjoy the food I don't see why it's a problem. I didn't go out of my way to cook her a 3 course meal, I just did a starter and dessert as well as the usual meal I cook.

And I got sexy time lataaaah ;).

We don't buy gifts, just a card and I'm cooking a surprise meal tonight which will cost a little more than normal but to say I have fallen for some commercial trap is a joke.

I show my GF I love her at all the time, however taking one day out of the year to focus on our relationship and celebrate it cannot be a bad thing. It's the people who think valentines is about buying expensive gifts that have got it all wrong and seem to be the people who also dislike Christmas.

These days are about stopping to concentrate 100% on the people who are important in your life and celebrating with them, what is wrong with that?

I bet you lot celebrate Birthdays and Weddings.....hipocrits ;)
