Things that annoy you about the opposite sex.

Not all stereotypes are negative, and women can also post negative thing about men if they wish.

i) I was talking about this thread. All the stereotypes prior to my post were explicitly negative.

ii) All sexist stereotypes are negative in one way or another, even if only against the sex not mentioned. Say, for example, someone was to say that women are compassionate. Since they specify women only, that means men aren't compassionate - clearly a negative stereotype. Positive stereotypes also place a falsely high standard on everyone of the stereotyped sex, which many of them will fail to achieve.

iii) Why would more of the same wrong be better?

men think they should have sole charge of the remote control.
the fact that you can row with your partner all day, be barely talking to each other, but still think that sex is on the cards!
can eat all day and never gain weight.
and I don't have enough time to get started on driving!
Its just as well we women love men anyway!

one more thing when men hoover/do the dishes they announce that they have done them FOR YOU!

:p:p:p Are you my Missus :D

I beg to differ.

The only person I see talking in absolutes is you. You use the term sexist stereotyping to describe any gender based comments made in this thread unless the poster makes it clear they are aware the observation does not apply universally - if that's not talking in absolutes, I don't know what is. To insist time and again that any observation which applies a particular trait predominantly to one gender is sexist is narrow-minded in the extreme.

It is possible to apply certain patterns of behaviour to one gender or the other and not be sexist, without having to add a caveat to the post indicating that the author realises that not all members of the gender in question necessarily display that particular trait. Many of the posts which you think are absolutes, I would imagine, are made by people who don't feel the need to clutter their posts with caveats which should be unnecessary to all but the most pedantic of people. I doubt very much if the majority of people posting in this thread are stupid enough to believe that the observations they have made actually apply to all women or men and to suggest they are is, frankly, insulting.

If they don't believe that, why are they stating it? Blanket statements are just that - blanket statements. A single word that completely changes the meaning isn't clutter.

I'll work from the other end - do you think sexist stereotyping can ever exist? I'm asking that in all seriousness, since you are arguing that blanket statements against an entire sex are actually disguised references to perceived trends.

How about some other stereotypes? "Blacks are thieves", for example, or "People living north of Watford are dole-fiddling, stupid, uneducated theives". Anything wrong with those attitudes?

Somebody got all 90s bloke metro on us.
That amuses me.

I get accused of the same sort of things from both sides, which tells me I am close enough to being in the middle. The serious bigots on one side tell me I hate women, the serious bigots on the other side tell me I hate men - both when I say the same thing. "90s bloke metro" is just amusingly inaccurate in comparison.

I actually quite like Hollyoaks, and I'm male. At least I was before I started watching Hollyoaks.

People pay thousands for a sex change. Hollyoaks can't cost more than £20 a month and you get lots of other TV in the package. Bargain!

By this logic saying Grass is green means everything that isn't grass can not be green.

and rightly so:rolleyes::p

it isn't:confused:

Only if you define everything as being grass or not-grass and describe how grass is in contrast with not-grass. No-one does that.

Angilion, is there really any need to be trolling this thread? You've had your say, move on.
Trolling is when a person makes deliberately inflammatory posts solely for the purpose of annoying people.

Objecting to sexist stereotyping does not fit that definition.

It is, however, futile. I've had enough of wasting my time for today.

Nix is a female name. Should I now say that you don't understand what trolling is because you're a woman and women don't understand very much? After all, there's nothing wrong with blanket statements against people of the "wrong" sex, is there? Only in objecting to those statements.

I shall leave you all to your exchange of such statements, as that's what this thread was created for.

A note for anyone who might be desperate to find something to smear me with: The paragraph beginning "Nix is a female name." does not reflect my views. It is, obviously, a rhetorical device.

I think nix is a bloke :p

and NIX i would have though nixon and a dudes name.

I would hazard a guess that Angilion is French.

Angilion, chillax maaaan. This thread is a jest filled thread take it as that.

I don't actually have a bad word to say about the opposite sex all the women I seem to meet are great people :D

Except the sexist woman at work that will take any chance to have a dig at men an when I'm like "What's your deal with men" shes like "I live with one", my response to that is "You obviously live with the wrong one for you then". Bloody n00b.

I shall leave you all to your exchange of such statements, as that's what this thread was created for.

You freely admit that you were aware that the thread would consist almost entirely of posts in direct conflict with your viewpoint yet you still made posts which were diammetrically opposed to the views of the majority of the participants and yet you still think
Trolling is when a person makes deliberately inflammatory posts solely for the purpose of annoying people.
doesn't apply to what you have been doing

Also, your contribution to this thread has basically been to post one view and then answer each post which challenged that view with the same view, worded slightly differently, or to defend your position by attempting to ridicule the other person's argument or belittle them in some way, whilst steadfastly refusing to even consider that your view may be flawed.

Is this Cleanbluesky's second account?

The lack of good decision making skills also gets my goat; when you do try to be alpha and choose something, god help you if it's crap. :(

Angilion, High-horse - get off it.

My pet hate with the wife is her constant calling me, for example:

This morning i wake up two hours earlier than i need to, after an hour and 40 minutes listening to a builder next door drilling and hammering, i get up early and do my normal morning routine... except i cant find my smokes.... this annoys me further... so i start searching the house.

Mean time, my dad calls around to drop something off... stays for a minute max and leaves.
Que first call, from her in bed upstairs...

"what are you doing up so early, who was at the door.. blah blah..."

I explain the situation and that im not in a good mood.

Anyhoo, i get in the car and head off to work

Que phone ringing... over and over and over...

I dont have handsfree so cant answer, i eventually turn off the mobile....

Que my work mobile starts ringing.... yes its her again...

15 calls later i turn this phone off too!

So i arrive at work and turn on my work phone... you guessed it, she calls me at the exact same time... I answer and get abuse for turning my phone off and leaving early for work???

I try again to explain whats happened, plus the traffic works i have to get through at the moment to get into work etc... then she goes quiet on the phone (most hated type of call) so i say, "right im in work now so must go", her reply... "im not important"... then she hangs up??????

OMG??? :( women for the lose!
