Don't beat about the bush. Give it to them straight.

unfortunately with some companies the only way to get a pay rise is threaten to leave. Im now looking for a new job as Im bored, but worry that if I had my notice in Ill be offered another payrise lol.

Just be blunt and straight to the point with your boss. Tell him you want a payrise because other compaines in the area are paying more for the same kind of role. 9 times out of ten that should work for you

I'm on £16k a year too but i live with my wife and 2 kids, try cutting down on stuff you have (internet, Cards, Phone, etc) which is what i've started doing and I can manage on 16k with a family lol
