My car just got wheel clamped!!!

Here's one for you.

Took Mrs car for MOT, after getting it back she realised the Tax disc was missing. Asked MOT station, no joy so she phoned the DVLA and they put a mark on "system" it was missing and she was told to submit a V20 (IIRC) form and she'll have to pay a small fee to get a new one.

We have no off-road parking and she still uses the car daily and has not been advised to not use it. Is she breaking the law? We accept it's missing, she has paid for tax but is not displaying.

I think in this day and age of number plate recognition and integrated databases covering Insurance, MOT, Registration and Tax that displaying a disc should be obsolete by now. Just seems to me like an excuse to make money.

Bought the car and drove it home before realising it wasn't taxed :o Quickly nipped to the PO who sorted me out.

You quickly nipped to the post office? Right, speeding as well, that'll be another fine! :D

sorry, i came over all nu-labour for a second then!

Technically, yes. But as third parties are directed by the DVLA I can't see that anything would happen were she stopped.

The offence is "failing to display", so she's a criminal.

Stop talking sense, they might hear you.

your comtting an offence

of "not displaying" a valid tax disc

there is also the offence of not having road tax, but you're not guilty of that one.

Well its been over a week since we submitted the form and we got nothing yet. There is absolutely nothing to avoid getting done for it for her I suppose. No off-road parking and a missing tax disc. We live on a terraced row with the Police station tagged onto one end very close by and we get officers walking past our cars all the time and haven't had anything from it.

Not much we can do about it though unless we camouflage it. I wonder if the Romulans or the Navigator will lend me a cloaking device.

I drove around for ages without a tax disc in my window (it had been water damaged and then lost) whilst I waited for a replacement. Nothing was said or done and I live next door to a police station :)

I'd personally stick a note on the dash explaining the situation!

The tax on my car ran out at the end of Jan and even though I ordered it early, got it early and put it in my glove box with the intention of changing it I clean forgot about it till the middle of the second week of this month. At work I park in a public car park so looks like I had a lucky escape or the regular wardens who I talk to recognised the car and chose to ignore it.

I just bought the car!

And the insurance certificate will take at least 1 day to come

you're have to pay

you can insure your car online and then print off a temp cover note (like i did)
and also tax your car online (like i do)

so realy theres no reason why its not been tax'ed !

and you can also ring them to tax your car so they realy do make it easy to tax your car

A printed covernote is not valid to tax your car in the PO.
He can't use the online system as it doesn't have his insurance or ownership details yet.

But he's still a pillock for getting done :D

You realise a tax disc only has an expiry date, you could have just put the new disc on when you got it and avoid the risk.

I feel for the OP as I've bought cars in the past without tax and driven them home. Then get tax the next day, but I knew the risks and got away with it.

You were just unlucky, and will have to take the hit to the wallet.

3 pages of replys, don't alter the fact that ignorance of the law is no excuse,

you have to pay.

3 pages? Mine's still on one page...80 posts per page

I think enough has been said to the OP though, so I won't bother commenting on what has happened to him.
