So I've had the PS3 a couple of days now...............

Well if this is what you meant then fair doo's. But it certainly isn't how it came across. You stated it was FACT several times and said anyone who did prefer the PS pad wasn't being truthfull. Can't you see how that would fuel the debate?

I thought what I said was that anyone who was being truthful can't say it's a good pad because it has many flaws. It's possible someone would like it, what one mans junk is another mans masterpiece and all that :p.

I thought what I said was that anyone who was being truthful can't say it's a good pad because it has many flaws.
But I AM being truthful when I say I think it's a good pad, I've never found another pad that suits me better. The only issue with it for me is the dead areas on the analogue sticks, which doesn't mean it's not a good pad, simply that it's not perfect. I understand that the DS3 has eliminated that issue as well, so I'm looking forward to grabbing one when they're released over here and experiencing what for me will be a perfect pad.

But all I'm saying is a pad that gets revised twice within 12 months can not under any circumstances be a good pad, whether you like it or not is a different matter. I'll get on with a DS3, though it's not a great design for me, but it works fine. The Six-Axis doesn't work fine which is why they've made it more robust, added rumble, fixed the deadzone and then 3rd party have released trigger extenders (because concave is obviously better than convex for triggers on a pad).

I would agree the 360 pad is better but i have got used to the ps3 pad now and for me it is good , i will buy the new pad when it arrives .

The thing is though, I DO hold it normally! What is 'normal' to you may not be 'normal' to me. I hold the PS3 pad with fingers rather than grip and it's also the way I hold my mouse, my PSP and almost every pad I can think of before it - even going right back to the old Quickshot joysticks. I haven't adapted this grip because I had to, it's the way I gripped it from day one so it's my natural preference.
Not really sure what holding the pad with fingers means and if it's different to what I'm doing. Do you mean it doesn't touch your palms? TBH I can't see another way of holding the pad and still being able to use all the controls. I don't intentionally grip it hard, it's just when you need to hold the R2 trigger all the way down and hold X down at the same time (which you need to do all the time in motorstorm), your 2 fingers wrapped round the back respond by gripping the pad tighter to keep it stable. And I can't see a way of gripping it where the finger pulling the R2 trigger isn't bent. If I use my index finger on the trigger instead of my middle finger, my index finger has to bend and the stretch to get my thumb on X is much worse.

I also grip a mouse with thumb and ring finger rather than resting my palm on it.

edit: piccy of how my right hand holds the pad and the problems when playing something like motorstorm -

does no one else think the xbox pad feels "cheap" ??? i dont mind the shape of it too much but i always think the D pad and buttons on the right just feel tacky

i do like the triggers though , especially for racing games

are all the buttons analogue on it ?

anyway im bias because i think my hands are PS pad shaped from growing up on the PS1 .

The face buttons on the Xbox360 pad are brilliant, but the D-pad is absolutely horrible.
I think the Xbox360 pad is rock solid though and doesn't feel cheap at all, in fact I'd say bar the D-Pad, it was the total opposite.

I believe the face buttons on it are analogue, with the bumpers, start, back and media button being digital.

So youre saying if something gets revised with in a year it cant be good under any circumstances?! LOL!!!!

Im actually really surprised at how some people are holding thier control pads! I must have been pretty narrow minded in thinking that people generally hold it in the same way. Looking at some photos I really can understand why people are having issues with it! It feels plain wrong holding it in some of the positions shown, using the middle half of my thumb to control the analog sticks feels way to special, it must be so inaccurate! I use the end of my thumbs (fingerprint area) to control the sticks whilst my ring and little fingers sort of curl round the bottom of the arms, my middle finger kinda sits in the curvature below the shoulder buttons then my index finger covers the top R&L buttons. Theres generally a loose approach to holding it which imo makes it feel kinda more responsive as theres an increased area of movement, as opposed to the 360 pad which kinda moulds to your hand and movement is made mostly by just your fingers.

right what i hate about the pad well its not really a pad complaint :D but i wish developers would let us re-assign controls that are suitable FOR A LEFTY! (ie the dual analogue stick controls left stick move and right stick aiming is for RIGHTIES not LEFTIES)

Not really related to this, but when I was a young'un in the arcades in the 80's and on the Amiga, I used to play games left handed despite being a righty.

I can see why it annoys people though, very rarely do you see Southpaw options.

No they haven't. SKU's are different to revisions.
The only revision they had was adding HDMI to the newer, lower nm chips after 18 months (which we knew was coming).

Well depends how you look at revision really, adding thicker plastic to a control pad or altering aspects of a product package, either way its change which was determined through revision and it affects the end-user. To say that anything that gets revised (even twice within a 12 month period) is pap is just stupid tbh! Would something have to be perfect then in order for it to be acceptable? Because i dont see you moaning much about the 33%++ rrod issue.

Something as intrinsic to a console as the controller which is required to play games shouldn't need a revision twice in a year after millions and millions of $'s of research and development have gone in to it.

On the topic of RRoD, I've never defended it and have condemned it many times. Having a 33% failure rate is even worse than having a poor controller obviously, so Microsoft are indefencable for what they've done, saying other wise were ridiculous. But we're not talking about Microsoft here, we're talking Playstation 3. I'm not sure whether you're saying I have an agenda (being anti-Sony/pro-MS) or whether you are trying to switch a lot of blame on something Sony to something Microsoft. I can assure you I am not the former, nor am I willing to debate and defend the latter.
