The Return of The Champions League - *SPOILERS* - 19/20 Feb

from listening to fergie i can't see anything but is going in for him in the summer. i rate him on the fact that we'd kept him quiet for the entire game but just at that one point you could see absolute certainty on his face that he was scoring. only thing might be that Lyon drive a hard bargain and how much do we have to spend.

I really don't see what Hargreaves brings to the side. He is a marginally better defensively than Carrick. However going forward he is a total liability! SAF wanted him ages ago, couldn't, so he bought Carrick instead. Then Hargreaves makes himself available and even though we have a perfectly good midfielder, SAF is so stubborn that he had to buy him!

He almost never passes forward and when he does he gives the ball away. It frustrates me as the money could have been spent on an attacker. I'd pick Fletcher over Hargreaves atm!

How well did Ronaldo play? Any highlights on later?

He wasn't dribbling, he was playing short passes and he hit a few nice free-kicks. I thought he did well, but he was left isolated on the left too often, he should have been on the right-wing.

At half time it was showing you the Lyon fans hitting him with laser pens when he had the ball which was disappointing to see. But I'd have liked to see him carry the ball a bit more.

He looked good for the goal and looks to have a lot of potential, but I didn't see him running rings round anyone tonight. His goal was good because he took it quickly, its not as if he ran round 3 players though. Great talent and he'll only get better, shame he'll cost 25m+ though.

Maybe "ran rings round" was the wrong term, however, every time he got the ball, he showed great strength and it seemed he always needed two defenders to get the ball off him. He was the best player on the pitch by far.

Yeah thats because he's a defensive midfielder. His job is not to go forward but to shield the back 4. He does it great especially when he runs his socks off every match.

Didn't notice him from what I saw of the game, but then again it was a big game so...........;)

You reckon? I thought he was one of, possibly our best, first half player. He linked every move and worked hard (and tracked back), he wasn't helped by a formation which left him on his own too much with too many behind and only Rooney ahead.

Don't think we're going to agree there. You can tell he has potential but I wouldn't go as far as saying he was the best player on the pitch. I don't think there were any stand out players for either team tonight to be honest.

Although Tevez was good when he came on, Nani too.

I agree with that totally (didnt see the bit about laser pens but even so)

should have been on the right

Thought Giggs did ok, but thougth a combo of Anderson Hargreaves and Carrick from the start could have done more than Scholes starting

Annoyed a little at Rooney as his "offside" goal would have gone in anyway leaving goalie flat footed as one up to .....Tevez was it? for an away win but even so 1-1 away is pretty good I think

I feel sorry for Celtic leading at 2-1 at half time, but think they are completely out now, and tbh think Arsenal are out too

Plonker who ever you were - Hargreaves wasnt bought to attack (primarily - although I believe he is a great dead ball option) he is there to defend, and to my mind he does it very well indeed - the amount of attacking balls he cut out, the amount of stuff he started I think OH did very well indeed

Fair enough but the main point I was trying to make is do we need him? Carrick did great last season in the center with Scholes and we have back up in Darren Fletcher and even O'Shea.

I didn't see the first half and only had it 'on' for the second rather than actually fully watching it. I couldn't honestly comment on anyone's performance really.

I could however have guessed that Giggs and Scholes would have been weak links in the side. Giggs has been past it for a few years now, and since Anderson has been here I think Scholes' input is seriously under question.

What Sky were showing fans using laser pens? Surely they should have been kicked out?

I think 1-1 is a pretty decent result, you shouldn't have any problems back at home.

Arsenal have a massively tough task, you really need a goal or 2 to take back to the San Siro.

Celtic are as good as out.

Look back to the Milan tie and thats why you need Hargreaves. Without a decent defensive midfielder you'll get murdered against the top sides in europe.
