Gears of War 2

Pretty boring trailer. Not really interested in this one as GoW really bored me. I was pleased when I finished it so I could sell it on. It looked awesome but it was so repetetive.
 
I loved Gears of War and I'm really looking forward to the second installment. I had a great time playing through the game with a friend which is how it was meant to be played.

I wonder if they'll increase the number of players for co-op this time? 4 player would be nice!

MP too needs an increase in players.
 
Doesn't look that much better, BioShock already set new standards for water and that's not even fully UE3 as far as I know.

The 60 locust on screen is fairly cool though, but I bet a small fraction of them will be on screen at the same time in a proper game.

Bioshock did that for a half minute in the intro of the game, in gears it would feature in the game in lots of different levels/areas.

I said before the game needs 4 player co-op but I doubt they can do it yet on games and still make it a challenge. I think it's beyond them right now to balance the AI if your playing alone on insane and then again if 2/3 or 4 are.

Look at Halo 3 on the hardest level in co-op. It became a walkthrough.

I think it would take a huge effort to get the difficulty level correct with so many different variables of numbers of people playing for each difficulty level.

Imagine how easy Raam insane would have been with 4 player co-op. Yet for single player on insane he's pretty rock hard.
 
i wasnt a big fan of gears multiplayer but really loved the single player. im hoping for more of the same. more being the operative word :p

trailer was pretty uninspiring but did enough for me.
 
The new Unreal Engine looks nice, wonder how many games are going to use this one now lol, still think it will be behind the cry engine in looks anyway, should see that at GDC aswell. Hopefully they can solve the texture pop in problems that seem to affect many UE3 games.
Seems like the gaming industry is taking hints from the film industry with game trailers now, show minimal content, highly stylised with just a name and a date. Not a dig at gears before anyone starts lol, just a observation bout many new game trailers.
Build a lot of interest though dont they?
 
Is it an actual trailer? It seems to just show improvments over GOW1. Doesn't strike me as being a trailer like I watch most other days.

You can bet your life that that scene with over 100 locusts coming round the corner ends up in a trailer/teaser. Although on first listen I didnt realise he said "flock" technology :D
 
Flock technology has been around for years, Lord of the Rings used it a lot.

While they can render that many, I very much doubt any system today could handle the processing required to independently manage all of those Locust in a battle, in real time.

If it had a good system which scales the AI depending on the distance they are from you, then it is entirely possible.
 
What would then happen if you rushed a crowd? Would it handle the change in AI for a full crowd?

I assume they would develop the levels in order to make that quite hard to do. The only reason i know it can be done is Insomniac are using that idea for the Chimera. The enemy becomes more inteligent the closer you get to them. I dare say they are not the first to do such and thing and wont be the last.
It could be interesting tech if included in other games, like Gears.

Oh I definately agree. As said about the Co-Op thing, a level full of Locusts, all with Insane AI, And not being just flocking dolls would be awesome.

With this four player co-op thing couldn't they add an extra difficulty? So if the player selects insane and 3 of his mates join, the game realizes and makes it more difficult? But then when the player is by himself on insane, there is a default difficulty level for single player?

Dunno they couldn't manage to do it with halo3. Anyway until they say it's in, it's pointless debating it. I'd like to see it but I'd rather they give me 10 full levels of GOW than 4 1/2 again that I can play 4 player.

Oh and I dont want anymore of that pap in the tank thingie, with the spot light.

Yeah I agree.

That driving level was the most annoying part of the game.
