I just have visions of 6 pot engines being almightly huge :D

To be fair it's not really a V6 in the traditional way, it's kind of halfway between a V engine and an inline, and as such is not as wide as a V6, or as long as a Straight 6.

Very clever engine TBH

I was thinking along the same lines as Fox, I would probably go with the VR lump as I love the sound they make, but for some reason I keep thinking the 1.8T seems a better option, ive also got the idea in my head that the VR6 engine will be loads heavier than the 1.8T even though its probably not.

decsions decsions.

i am looking to get the engine etc sorted begining of march.

then i have everything ready to go. (appart from a place to do it lol)

Penski, i have asked about the sheran subframe and it wouldnt fit, i might then also need different wishbones, pas rack etc as well....

why are the choices so hard :(

I'd VR6 it first, get it running nicely, then along the line when you're bored/flush with cash you can add forced induction of some sort. Supercharged VR6 sounds lovely :)

A lot of the guys there are quoting 24valve VR6, I thought they were all 12v? Or is it a conversion you can have done (guessing swapping the head off another model)?

24v comes in later models - mk4 onwards.

It weighs a bit more, the head is a bit wider and it makes a bit more power.

But yeah. Get the VR6 in and save up for a blower.

new blower is £2k for a stage 2.

with the package i found noted up a few posts he will include a Stage 2 charger for £2000 all in, engine and all.

but i aint got that cash at the mo lol

What sort of budget are we talking stinky, because if i had 5k to play with idd whack a turbo in straight away because the are simply a better engine. If you have less than a grand i doubt you will see a turbo engine and a vr6 is your only option.

Edit: Ohh and i dont think you should choose an engine because it "sounds nice". Jesus i cant beleive people actually think like that.

No they aren't.

It's one of the many things that make the wobbly six a better engine.

To me both engines have their merits. However it is the noise that sets them apart.

Although I did meet a guy with a 400hp+ 1.8T in a mk2 at Santa Pod. That was very quick. Around 12sec @120mph quarter miles

Ohh dont get me wrong, they are both brilliant engines, however the turbo has a higher power potential per £ than the vr6, it is also lighter.
