Football *SPOILERS* 23/25 February - Inc. Carling Cup

Well, he's a lot less lazy now than when he was at Boro and unlike the rest of our strikers he actually knows where the goal is. Even simple tap-ins like his 3rd against Brann, I could easily see some of our other/previous strikers cocking it up (Beattie, McFadden and probably Johnson).

I'd much rather have the Yak starting for is against the big 3 than Anichebe and in my opinion Vaughan is better used as a sub at the moment when defences are tiring.

The trouble with beattie is he joined at the wrong time, when we were still trying to get over the post Duncan ferguson era of just hoofing it to a lone striker. Beattie never stood a chance. They expected him to do the same job and have someone mop up flick ons.

Beattie had so much more to offer and we wasted him.

Aliadiere gets a 4 game ban yet Talyor who breaks a players leg, and maybe even their career gets 3 games...

Well played FA.

I'm obviously glad I missed the game therefore it didn't happen as far as I'm concerned and it's only a worthless cup anyway.
Gutted, there's only 1 thing worse than losing to Spurs or Liverpool and that's losing to them in a final.

Clever :D

I think at the end of the day, despite the jest or not, i think it was this that made Spurs want it more, which is what it came down to.

fool
its not like he did it intentionally

I personally believe he set out to rough up the team, he didn't set out to break a players leg, but to unsettle his opponent.

He went in shin high, studs up.

So he should get more of a ban depending on how serious an injury is caused?

Yes. With a tackle like that.

He's the 2nd Arsenal player to have his career potentially threaten by a terrible tackle. The first got a yellow card..

Fans can spin it how they like and I've heard plenty about how he didn't mean it and got beaten by his quick feet but maybe someone would like to explain to me if he was trying to nick the ball off him why his studs went in to the middle of his shin and well over the ball?

I don't think he went to break his leg but I'm not so sure he was entirely convinced he was gonna win the ball, especially with his studs so high.

okay that picture show contact we all agree to that, but it doesn't confirm the premise that there was intent to cause such an awful injury. If you've ever played football you will know that its impossible when running and going in for a tackle to keep your feet on the floor. Honestly, get a grip all, it was a terrible injury but its a contact sport and these things happen, no-one but the player himself knows if he meant to go into the tackle with intent to injure , and i personally don't think he did.

All personal opinion and it's pointless keep going over it.... Is the irony of all this lost on you guys? How many red cards have you had under Wengers reign? ;)

How many legs breaks or serious injuries have we caused with those red cards? We used to have a committed team who more often than not tried to win the ball, more often than not players like Vieira for example won the ball but sometimes he didn't. Doesn't make him a dirty player or a player who had intentions to harm others.

I have played football and I also know that the ball is usually on the floor and if you go in stud showing almost at knee height you might not win the ball

I'm not saying he tried to injure him or break his leg, I wouldn't be surprised if their team had instructions to rough us up and he got carried away.

Spoken like a true football fan..................who's never played competitive football in their life. I don't throw these around lightly but you definitely deserve one

Aliadiere got sent off for Violent Conduct. Violence has no place in football EVER, hence the length of ban.

Taylor was sent off for Dangerous Play and had the tackle not broken Eduardo's leg it would have been at worst a yellow. It wasn't even a bad tackle by today's standards, simply mis-timed, NOTHING more. As I've said before I did the exact same thing to another player with the same result. I didn't intend to injure either.

Taylor's tackle was very bad, aiming to inflict pain, obviously not a broken leg. Should be a length 3+ match ban.

Aliadiere's was skeptical tbh. Masch should have got something for it.

Look where the ball is in the picture and look at the height. OK?

Think about the speed of the game and the speed of Eduardo. OK?

Now think how long it would take for the ball to go from where Taylor's foot is (and yes he would have made contact with the ball, any idiot can see that) to where it is in the picture.

Yes thats right, if you factor in all these things we are talking a FRACTION of a second, nothing more. Taylor was unlucky not to make the tackle and yes Eduardo was even more unlucky. Had Taylor made contact with the ball it was a great tackle. He didn't and was a fraction of a second late with devastating results. This is football!

It was certainly a bad tackle but that doesn't mean he was intending to break his leg or 'rough him up'. I honestly think it was just thoughtless and reckless with no intention of causing any injury.

Why should Taylor be banned for 9 months because unfortunately Eduardo broke his leg where other players have intended to cause serious injury (but weren't successful) and got away with just a 3 game ban?

By the letter of the law both should have been sent off which is why Aliadiere got an extra game for the pointless appeal.

Clearly the ref missed what Mascherano done and i have to say im suprised nothing has been done about it by the FA (unless the ref did see it and deemed it ok).
