Thinking of selling my watercooled 2900Pros for an X2

i dont consider it bad, thats why i said, if you can get the money you consider to be good then do it. X2 is the overally better product.

And assuming you dont mind a degrade in performance for a while, you could buya cheap 3870XT and wait for next gen to arrive

You mean a 3870XT aswell as?

I mean a single card... spend little money now, get good performance and buy good card later on when they are released... Of course now that i think about it you could just sell one instead of two of your PROs and do that.

Anyway X2 is better than two PROs just for the fact that the noise and power is less.

I thought the 30k score recently by the Ultra's was impressive. 200k  are the 2900's at a cryogenic temperature to clock that fast?. :D

I play at 1920x1200 on a Dell 24" TFT.

Its amazing really that even with those two cards, I still can't play my games with all settings turned on max with a high FPS.

Aside from that though, custom pc's are my hobby so I like to change bits around and get the best out of it that I can.

In that case if the chance to try some new hardware makes you happy, then the change is worth it, aside from the performance boost. :)

New card installed and I have to say I'm not exactly blown away by it. My 2 2900pro's did indeed wee all over it in 3DMark06. It gave me a score of 18031 which is pretty poor, as I've got on average 19000 to 20000 before.

Also, after much tweaaking, it runs games better on 8.1 than 8.2. CoH was at a measly 10fps until i went back to 8.1, at which point it jumped to aroun 40 (the same as having 2 2900 pros lol).

Roll on the new drivers!

18000 is spot on for stock clocks on this card.

I did say you wouldn't see much difference from the 2900's as they were clocked just as high and have faster/more mem than the X2 does.

New drivers arn't going to work miricals, and at the end of the day whatever improvements happen with the X2 will also happen to normal Crossfire setups, so your 2900's would have gained the same boost.

All you gain by going to an X2 from 2900's is less heat/power usage and the option to add in a 3rd/4th card.

I won't tell the wife that....

Have to admitt though, my gaming room is a lot cooler now than before.

Wil be adding a second X2 once the drivers come out in march;)

Worth the change then if you are going for a Quad GPU setup :)

I'm soooo very tempted to get a 3870XT and have a Tri-GPU setup.

I'll see how the drivers pan out in the next couple of weeks.:D

Yeah I know what you mean. Tri-setups do get good reviews at the mo!

Well quad is out of the window for me anyway as i'm on a P35, but yeah, current previews show 3 cards being the sweetspot in most stuff.

Ahh so you'd still get the 3870XT in the 4x slot. I've been wondering about this if I make the move to the X2 for an add on a few weeks later. PCI-E lane speed is much less affected with ATI so it should be still worth it.

How much of a loss do you think you'll get from 16x-4x?.
