World's highest paid players

Kinda good to see no Arsenal players on that list, sort of shows our top players are more interested in playing for the club than their wage packet. Having said that, no doubt Cesc will start to command very high wages if he renegotiates his deal.

Sol Campbell is paid more than Ferdinand and Vidic

Thats the funniest thing I've ever read.

why?

sol is right up there with ferdinand and vidic

he might be "abit" past it now but hes still one of the top CBs england have had for the last 10 years

and as others had said he went on a free

I can't comment on the £90K since I find that hard to believe but I equally find the idea he took a 50% paycut to sign for Spurs from Charlton as hard to believe. He was on around £25K at Charlton.

he means west ham not charlton

He had the option of moving to Spurs or West Ham, Spurs were supposedly offering half of what West Ham were.

That's not a paycut thou is it. He is still getting paid more at Spurs then at Charlton so he got a payrise. He took the lower wage offer from the transfer but he didn't take a paycut.

That's a WORLD top paid list....no way is he any where near being one of the best defenders in the world now, maybe 5 years ago yes but this is his current salary.

It's surprising how people like Scholes and Giggs aren't in that list. I bet the money doesn't matter in the slightest to them. If they had bigger ego's they' be right up there.

It used to matter to them but they now will finish the career at united and take what they can get. When giggs was at his peak every time his contract was being discussed there would be talk of him going to italy or spain to boost his money.

His agent played the game like all the others.

Its when you hear Wes Brown is holding out for 80k per week you know the world is about to implode.

Beckham should be topping it surely?

Beckham earns £26.5m a year, however

BBC Sport said:
The £128m deal is understood to comprise his salary, existing sponsorship contracts, merchandising shirt sales and a share of the club profits.

So his gross salary may actually be lower than the players' in the OP.

Not that it matters anyway as the OP looks like a lot of random guesses.

There's no way Terry and Lampard are currently on the same wage.
JT signed a new contract not too long ago and Frank is still on his 'old' one, pending renewal (and re-negotiation of course).
In regards to the number of Premiership players on that list, it makes sense as our league is the biggest in the world, so more money equals higher wages.
Also, I believe that in either Spain or Italy they have a special tax break for footballers to encourage them to come to the country, so for example an £80,000 salary there has the same takehome as a £100,000 salary in the UK.

Did he not go on a free to Portsmouth though - probably why his wages are bumped up a bit. Portsmouth were probably prepared to pay him more seeing as they got him for nowt! Same with Ballack!

At one stage Campbell was the highest paid player in Britain, as he joined Arsenal on £100k/week. Arsenal actually had to PAY him £1m to leave, and then he went and signed another phat contract at Pompey.

Interesting to see only one player from Serie A in that list. 13-18 years ago that was where all the money was.

nope no special tax break, income tax is half in spain that it is in england :)

No player in the world is worth that much money. It's a joke to say the least.
But surely if their being with the club brings in more money then they are being paid, then they are indeed worth the money they are paid because they are a going concern, as in any business?
If the money didn't go into the players' pockets, then where would it go?
Straight into the back pockets of the club owners, who deserve it far less than the players.
In relative terms to jobs in general, yes players get paid a vastly disproporionate amount in comparison to a 'noble' profession, such as firefighter, or doctor.
Unfortunately we don't 'celebrify' such people, so there is no market to earn money via them, therefore they get paid a 'normal' wage.
