Sydney armed robbers pick wrong night to raid bar

They would not have been the soft, easy-going middle class "bikers" that you get over here. In Australia, when the media says "bikers" they are usually referring to the gang variety. And biker gangs are a serious problem Down Under.

Look up the Gypsy Jokers and Coffin Cheaters some time. Those No swearing. Big Kev are serious business.

The Southern Cross Cruiser Club are not an outlaw motorcyle club or 'MC'. I would suspect that they are pretty much as described by dmpoole and the robbers should count themselves very lucky that it was not the Gypsy Jokers, Coffin Cheaters or their ilk....

When the media talk about 'bikies' here they are usually referring to organised criminal gangs, in this case it was the Southern Cross Cruiser Club and going by the description of the club I reckon they would not fall into that category, although I could be wrong.

'Bikies' is a term used for the outlaw bikers gangs or 1%er in Australia and as you rightly say this does not include the Southern Cross CC.

like how the police are delighted here they'd proberly arrest the bikers :(

In the UK, you have a right to use force to stop a crime in progress. You have a right to chase them down, force them to the ground and punch them in the face. This is the official position of the government and the police and that's if the criminal is not armed. If they are armed, you can use much more force, because the risk to you is much greater.

There is a possibility that you'll be arrested in such a case, because the police cannot be sure you are telling the truth rather than being a violent criminal with a quick excuse. They must, and should, conduct an investigation.

In a case like this one, with armed and masked robbers who were not seriously hurt, why would the police arrest anyone else?

UK law on defence is not how it's portrayed in the low-grade newspapers.

Righto, fair play. :)

Definitely agree with you about the Jokers & Cheaters; they're bad business alright.

Thinking about it I've been going to biker rally's for the last 33 years and I can't say that any of them have been visited by Hells Angels or similar.
They've always been normal people with normal jobs who like to ride bikes and camp in a muddy field while drinking lots of beer.
There are a lot of pre-conceived ideas about Bikers and one of the most memorable was at a Frozen Nuts rally in a gorgeous hotel in Derby.
The Manager had decided to let them use the hotel and grounds because they couldn't afford not to.
My band came off at about Midnight and I saw the Manager standing by a doorway so went to talk to him.
He honestly thought that some of the takings would go to repairs on the place and couldn't believe how well behaved they were.
I mentioned that in 3 decades I hadn't seen one fight and if a bunch of Mods turned up on scooters they would be allowed in as long as they didn't cause trouble.
They don't stand for nonsense though.
Apparently on the friday evening the band were so bad that after 20 mins they stormed the stage and carried their gear out into the car park.

Never been to a rock and blues or Bulldog bash event then?

Only one because they are not your 'normal' Biker Rally and its more like a Rock Festival.
They may be organised by Bikers but if you've been to a normal one you will know what I mean.
The dead giveaway is the amount of cars v bikes.
