I said I would try and take some better photos of my anime and manga figures and yesterday I got around to doing so. I wouldn't say I am very good with a camera but I think they have come out better than with a camera phone ;)

I won't post them on here as there are quite a few and I don't want to clutter the thread with that many images so the gallery with them in can be accessed via the link below ...

Well just started watching You're Under Arrest and I'm loving it so far, the character interactions and the humor are fantastic but it tossed up a very odd question that I can't find the answer for.

The police car that Miyuki and Natsumi are driving is a Honda but I can't figure out or find it anywhere.
Does anyone know if it is a real car? They have gone to great lengths on the bikes and making them look as realistic as possible and thought it could be the same for their police car.

Any help would be much appreciated.

YUA is great :)
Unfortunately the second and third series haven't been licenced/released in the west (although the third is still showing in Japan so it may be licensed eventually).

As for the car I've got a feeling it's loosely based on a real car, although Miyuki has modified it a fair bit in the series ;) (given the vintage of the original manga it would be a late 80's model, if not older).

[edit]
ANN's trivia page for YUA Manga say it's a Honda Today, Wiki entry for the Honda Today

Cheers guys that really helped, it was indeed a Honda Today, they stopped producing it just before 2000. Still if I can find one I think it would be really cool to do one up like their car minus the flashing lights.:D

Hope they do release the second series and full throttle over here.

[edit]: cheers Werewolf missed your edit while I was typing lol.

I seem to remember that in one of the YUA art/info books there was info from the promotional shoots where they had a car done up like that from the show.

... goes off to take a look ...

yep its the YUA File-X book ... has a few pages of photos of them painting/dressing a car up so it can be used for promotional shoots ...

You're Under Arrest is one of my favourite shows. I also love Patlabor so I'm not sure if it's the whole police thing I like or the slightly comedic slice of life thing.

Either way if you like one, you should like the other as they are very similar (except one has robots). They are also both very long and with numerous incarnations.

I personally think it's the mix of comedy with the interspaced semi serious episodes of police type stuff.
Both have some great episodes where they spoof/play homage to the standard anime cliches (haunted school/bath house etc).

The YUA special at the end of the first TV series is great :)

Re Rosario and Vampire, i've heard of it, and seen some pics from/of it and i think fanservice overload might be a good description from what i've heard :)

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I really like YUA and think its just really excellent but haven't really got into Patlabor at all, despite trying.

The main problem with YUA is the seeming lack of much in the way of quality wallpapers :)

edit: quickie for those who order from Rightstuf .... how long does shipping normally take from there? Something I had on order finally shipped the end of last week so I was wondering when to expect it ...

Can anyone recommend a good anime film/series that involves fighting and/or robots fighting? I prefer the anime that is darker/more adult in style to the colourful cartoony, not sure if that makes sense or helps with the choices :D

Thanks for any suggestions

Would definitely suggest Witch Hunter Robin and Ergo Proxy as a slightly darker anime but unfortunately no robots. Gundam Wing has to be one of my favorite anime series with big robots fighting.
Big O is done in a more serious way and has a slightly art deco feel to it.

On another note I think I've only seen the 2 Patlabor movies, I didn't realise there had been a T.V series released.

There was an OVA series "Patlabor Mobile Police: The Original Files".
Then the TV series "Patlabor Mobile Police: The TV Series".
Then the second OVA series "Patlabor Mobile Police: The New Files".

The first OVA is the original and I think is related to the 2 movies?

The TV series and the second OVA are one continuous story that retells the first OVA and carries on into a sometimes comical slice of life style show.

They were all released by CPM so are now long OOP and unavailable. I would never sell my Patlabor DVDs!

EDIT: Mysterious Cities of Gold is released in 21 days!!!!! It's a competitor only exclusive and is listed at £39.99. But it looks well worth the money with all the extras included. I have to have it!

I'm glad I managed to pick up the patlabor tv/ova series, especially as I doubt they will be rereleased by another company :( (CPM didn't make enough of a return to fully dub the new files OVA).
They were great value for money, something like £18 per set of 3-4 disks.

Did anyone else see that they are going to do a new Appleseed series?
It seems they are revisiting several older titles this year, from memory they are also doing a new Trigun movie, new Slayers TV, they've been running a new YUA series.

I'm crossing my fingers for a Gunsmith Cats series :p

I see from ANN that RightStuf/Nozomi Entertainment have licensed the three existing Maria-sama series which is absolutely excellent news.

I do not expect this is appeal to most of the people on the thread. It is a school based series, but has no fan service, is not a harem comedy and does not involve alien/giant robots/a nice boat ending/etc etc etc ... but I have seen it and find it to be one of my all time favourites. It covers the relationships between various characters at the school and in particular the "big sister" relationship which is encouraged between the different school years.

There are portions of both of the first two series which I find upsetting, (in a good way :) ), due to the the emotional strain being placed on the main characters. For example I know that if I am getting near the end of the second series then I have to block out time to watch the last three episodes together at once as if I have started watching them I need to watch through to the end :)

I'm not really sure why I like it but I do ... all I can say is that this finally being licensed for release on DVD is like a new CLAMP release for Loopstah or another YUA series being licensed for Werewolf :D

This will be going on my pre-order list.

If anyone's interested I noticed a certain competitor has 50% off Funimation DVDs. So they are all at £7.99-£9.99 (for starter sets). Includes Spiral, Full Metal Alchemist, Suzuka, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Peach Girl, Mushishi, Rumbling Hearts, Negima!, Beck, Fruits Basket and Gunslinger Girl.
