ok, I'm going to try and be as serious as I can about this, but the fact remains that having to complain about a colleague who (impressively) constantly farts is pretty funny. Please excuse any lapses in decorum.
I work opposite this guy - horrible specimen of a person. As well as noxious anal gases, his body emits an aroma that can literally not be described on this forum; even a dictionary description is not family friendly. I'm willing to accept that some people have bad days, but I've been here 8 months and this guy is getting worse.
Contrary to what you may believe, I go through bouts where I'm not the most subtle person. On particularly stinky days (heater on, windows closed), I've been known to utter "will whoever it is please stop farting, before one of us dies?!". Once it got so bad that I had to have a window open all day - said individual complained that it was cold (yeah, I know!) so I exclaimed that "if we can get rid of the smell of ass in this room, I'll shut the window".
It even got to the stage where it was so bad, that I had to announce that I knew who was making these ferocious smells, and if it didn't stop I would name and shame (I really don't want to do this; I'm a nice guy {shut up, I am}) the culprit. Still nothing.
Can someone advise me what the correct channels are to complain about someone's personal hygiene. My team leader knows, my manager knows, christ everyone in the building knows, but it's getting too much for me and I shouldn't have to sit breathing this in all day. If my team leader and manager haven't done anything, do I approach HR? I don't think I could maintain professionalism long enough to have a word with him about it personally.
