Clarkson may get points for talking on mobile...

I doubt that photo proves anything, it could have been photoshopped, it could be somebody else, there is too much uncertainty.

True, but not a phone camera. No way.

Exactly, it was a mobile phone, not a Digital SLR so I doubt the camera can change shutter speed.

LOL
Do you even know how a camera works !?!?!

All cameras, including those in mobile phone have a variable shutter speed. If they didn't then shots in bright light / dark light would be over / underexposed.

The shutter speed required to freeze a tree in the background travelling at 70mph would be around 1/500.
For reference a DSLR shutter can go up to 1/8000 so 1/500 isn't that fast.

i have taken shots from a fast moving vehicle and although the background like trees and gates don't blurr, they bend, its a weird effect.

Excactly, it was a mobile phone, not a Digital SLR so I doubt the camera can change shutter speed.

Especially not your average 'Pink Girlie' Motorola or Nokia thing!...

Even my Mate's N95 couldn't take a piccie that sharp and in focus at anything over stationary let alone 70mph!...

Every mobile phone camera I have used while in motion has come out wobbly, blurred and has had a random delay from pressing the button and the photo being taken. It would take some skill to get a decent pic like that while in motion from your average phone cam.

Anyway, this is just the usual nonsense you get from the media. If the man wishes to flout the law and he gets caught, let the police deal with it. I certainly don't care what JC does off the air. He's a man set in his ways and is quite proud of that. I admire his determination.

No need to be pedantic, it was already obvious you know a lot more than us about camera's

I am just a little surprised a mobile phone camera can take such a picture when moving at 70mph.

He looks stationary to me too. Still illegal though iirc?

Seem to remember someone here getting done for using one whilst stopped at lights.

Who's to say he isn't parked up at the side of the road? (Going from that photo)

Do some of you know anything about cameras

More or less same car going at the same speed in the same place just different shutter speeds.

With regard to this story have we real evidence that

1) It was taken using a mobile phone camera
2) It was taken at 70mph

Regardless of any of that a mobile phone camera would still produce a shot with the background (at that distance) sharp.

It's slightly annoying when as a Pro who gets paid to take photo's I'm being challenged by people who know nothing about the subject area.
