So i currently have a hitachi 160GB deskstar, was thinking about raiding a second one in RAID 0 (giving a total of 320GB right?) and getting a 320GB WD AAKS or another deskstar as backup.

Is it worth it or would i be better just getting a 320GB and putting OS on one and games/music/photos on the other?

Yes, adding another 160gb would give you 320gb or rather somewhere below 300gb once you take into account manufacturers 1gb is different to Windows.

I'd probably just keep with two separate drives unless you are one of the group of people to really benefit from Raid0 (those who use large contiguous files e.g. video, audio, graphics manipulation etc).

Raid0 for your OS is great. Would never go back to a single disk again. Raid5 for your crucial data is worth doing. Cheap to use Linux for raid5.

But a fast single drive is better/faster ie 10k Raptor or 15k SCSI.
imho RAID 0 is only worth doing if you use large files all the time, ie Video editor or work with large Hi-Res photo's/artwork.
