Goth Clothes Prompted Killing

I find it slightly shocking that such a high percentage of people don't even know what a "Goth" is! Wearing black clothes and sporting black & purple hair doesn't automatically make someone a "Goth".

Bit of an odd thing to pick out of the story if you don't mind me saying - I'm rather more concerned that people have been assaulted and killed for what they were wearing (and possibly how they were acting) than the fact that their correct sub-culture wasn't identified. Maybe I'm not getting the subtleties of your views though and am therefore misinterpreting them?

just read the story..

jesus wept, something needs to be done with these kids..

I really don't understand what's changed since I was their age - In just a decade, kids are now carrying knives and murdering people as if it was the norm. Seriously, what's changed in ten years? And why are they getting slapped on the wrist? They should be named and shamed, regardless of age tbh..

Hmm what has changed in the last ten years...... I wonder now. something to do with a big grin, a pack of lies and the colour red:confused:

And she was 20 taking a gap year too? Is that not a bit late? Im 20 and nearly finished my 3rd year of uni....
However, feral youths are a huge problem which have mysteriously (d)evolved into our society. Seeing the filth in Camden town makes me shudder.

Goths like to make people feel scared of them because they are insecure and wear scary clothes. Err.. no not really lol.
Its another sad, sad waste of a young life which will probably go unpunished by the red-gorillaz in power right now. But anyways, its not my fault the reds are in: apparently the majority of the country supports the reds and would like to see them back as they are satisfied with our lovely friendly red society which works oh-so well. Our justice system is peachy and there is less and less crime and everything is getting better.
Roll on another wasted decade and more wasted lives as we paint ourselves red.

Nothing has changed. Ten years ago, a man from my town was beaten to death by a group of drunks, the oldest of whom I believe was 22. These sort of people have always been around, the media just wasn't as big back then to advertise it.

Around 6 years ago, I was out one night with my ex, wearing very baggy jeans and one of his hoodies. Someone started shouting abuse across the road at us and was acting in a very threatening manner. We kept walking, and when we got close enough to see his face, the guy recognised me, it turned out we'd actually been in a class together at school and were friends within that class, so he said sorry and left us alone. I've always suspected that if I hadn't know him, he would have at least tried to attack us for the crime of dressing differently.

All it takes is these two mentalities to be put together (crazy enough to kill and not liking other peoples clothing) and this sort of thing could just as easily have happened 10 years ago.

I wouldn't say it was all that odd, in my case the course changed to professionally accredited so I didn't have much of an option about taking a gap year. There must be quite a few other possible reasons as well.

Azagoth, fair enough, I just picked it up wrong then.

A lot of people take a gap year after uni as well, before they start a job. Or work for a bit after a levels then have a gap year. Nothing odd about it in the slightest.

Weird! :/

Azagoth in Writing Poetry and Listening To Sisters shocker! ;)

Substitute poetry for lyrics and music and you're on the right track. Also, 'Sisters' were good back in the days of small venues, but I was more of a 'Fields' person myself. :)

I'm quite a fan of 'The Neph'...

Should I learn how to mope? :/

And for all the plebs blaming Labour and 'something in the last ten years' for things such as this, at the age of 12 (under a Tory government, I might add...) I was knifed and left for dead for the crime of having spiky hair, and wearing baggy jeans and a Carcass longsleeve.

Forget the clothes they were wearing, its the state of the youths today that this crime is about, those thugs should all be castrated & amputated and ship them some war torn civil war African country.

I was just walking home from work today (in my suit) when walking past a school, saw 2 kids in hoodies loitering in the carpark by the fence, I looked at them and kept walking. They saw me looking and started to shout abuses at me, which i didn't hear a word as I had my headphones in but i can see the hand signals.

Sooner or later someone would react to them, i think someone like the Punisher would be great. See a Chav behaving offensively for no reason, strap them up and hand them up from lampposts over night, no questions ask.

Another day, another bunch of idiots kick the crap out of someone for another stupid reason. I wish a day would go by where the dumb youths of today didn't injure/kill someone just for the clothes they wair/hair style/because thay was drunk etc...

I'm really shocked at the amount of times i read stories like this.

Seeing as you are talking from personal experience, I hope that this is not giving you some sort of justification for your opening clause.

Final sentence is tragic really.

But you are somewhat misguided by using the phrase "for all the plebs blaming labour.." that is 1: an oxymoron 2: saying that those with more traditional views or even dare I say it rightward leaning views are 'plebs'.

i would like you to extrapolate on this one before I pass judgement.

on another less argumentative note, it has been the case that people haven't know what to do with youths for years and years and years. We had the press gangs, factories, wars, no social welfare and many other things [which I'm sure will be kindly pointed out in due course] which 'helped' (excuse my lack of synonym here) to occupy a large tract of society.

I used to dress like a lot of people are mentioning in here, really baggy jeans and hoodies, band t-shirts, that sort of thing. After a while though I realised I just looked stupid and prefer not to stand out and attract needless abuse.

These people who dress like that know that there are **** like them scallies out there who take pleasure in stamping on people's heads, I dont see why a lot of them choose to keep attracting largely negative attention. I think a lot of the wearing the gothic clothes and things is about provoking a reaction and then they moan about it when they get beaten up. As already said, they claim to not conform and be individual but they're really just conforming to another standard.

Having said that, I think even this young couple got unlucky, and thats an understatement, the people that seem to be all over the place now, anyone on here stands quite a significant chance of gettin a severe beating when they go to the shops to get milk, nevermind when they're wearing t-shirts that say things like "Satan Rocks" or whatever.

I'm not saying these people deserved it, far from it, I think there are enough discussions about scallies out there who never learnt that punching someone long after they pass out is a bad thing and no matter how much people post on forums saying "they're lucky I didnt..." and how they should be hung drawn and quatered etc. The facts of the matter is they are out there, you know that stepping out your door so you should be trying not to give them a reason to target you. I see a gang of scallies, I put my head down and keep walking.

You can give it all your "why should we let them intimidate us" and all that and I would agree with you, in principle. But is that worth what you know and hear about almost everyday happening to you, for the sake of keeping your head down, minding your own business, and even running away?

Anksta,
I agree with what you're saying.

I was in a club last week and saw some absolute piece of dogs*** (who wasnt a goth) wearing a T-shirt with masssive letters saying:

"JESUS IS A ***"

Had my friends not been there we would be discussing how an intolerant bstard beat the living daylights out of another exhibitionist ***** who deserves every single punch to the head they get. IF Muslims are allowed to get enraged about things which are minor compared to that outright provocation, then why can't we? It don't make me ignorant innit?
So many of them bring it on themselves with ridiculous exhibitionist statements and enjoy the negative attention so that they get more of a reason to wallow in their nihilist self-pity.
Just because you might suffer from depression doesn't make you a goth nor does it compel you to flaunt and throw back the tolerant nature of the good British people!

No swearing

Gilly
