3850 AGP available?

I assume that this is better then for overclocking purposes

Asrock K8NF6P-VSTA is the same I assume. Can pick one of those up for around the same price from a reputable shop source.

And then I could drop in an 8800GT :D

Think that was the top of the line one that ASRock made for 754 and uses the most recent chipset capable of supporting 754.

Would be a far better option than dropping £50 extra on a 3850 when you can have a new mobo with PCI-E and a better GPU for the same money!

There were loads of PCI-E 754 boards made :| You could prolly pick one up 2nd hand these days from the bay or the BST forum for peanuts.

Infact I had an SLi 7800GT setup using a 754 3400+ on an EpoX 8NPA-SLI

So there really is zero reason to be limiting yourself to buying AGP cards now, especially at a 50% markup.

You wouldn't need to change your mem or your CPU, just drop in a cheapo PCI-E nForce4 754 board and a normal PCI-E 3850 and you're away.

I had the Epox Sli board too. Had a pair of 7800GT's in it along with a 3700+ @2.85Ghz and 2Gb of memory. Seriously quick rig for a single core. It is ridiculous paying over the odds for an AGP card these days. £146!! You can get a 8800GT for quite a bit less than that. Unfortunately though, 754 stuff goes for a premium on the bay these days. I should know, i made a large profit when i sold all my stuff last year. :D It would be the best way to go though and it will breath some more life into your rig before you really have to upgrade.

Already ordered. :D

Going to benchmark it tonight with my x800pro and stock 3400 and then we'll see what the money has bought me.

Thanks to all

Nice one, you just ordered the board? or a GPU as well?

Getting all nostalgic over my 8NPA now, man that board rocked.

754eva!!!

Both :D

Hopefully sort out the low fps I get on CS:S on HDR maps

I'll no doubt need to do a reformat. I know HDDs can be funny about being thrown onto new mobos

Nah you should be fine, get all the old system drivers off before starting new pc build; this includes mobo, gfx card, onboard audio and anything else relating to old mobo. Dowload the free software 'Driver Cleaner Professional', boot up in safe mode and run this program to remove what evers left system driver wise.

Then your HardDrive 'should' be fine from first boot up with the new parts, you most likely know all the above but still worth a mention. ;)

You got this yet m8?

Yes. Put it all together last night as I was away at the weekend.

Stock A64 3400 @2400 & an X800Pro

3DMark06 - 1602
CS:S Benchmark Full everything @1680x1050
6x MSAA 16x AF - 57 fps

Stock A64 3400 @2400 & an 8800GT

3DMark06 - 5207
CS:S Benchmark Full everything @1680x1050
6x MSAA 16x AF - 127.6 fps

Will try pushing the clocks a bit tonight and see what extra I can squeeze out of it.

Looks like you are CPU limited now :D get it clocked up!

Still you've doubled your FPS, should tide you over til you change platforms
