Would be interested if people could confirm their tests on the headphone sockets - is it normal/ok to have a whitenoise in them - has anyone else had this and/or solved it with software updates?

There's a fair bit of background hiss on my 1330 using the left port, but less-so on the middle port. Still not perfect, but it's usable, whereas the left port isn't.

Was just the same on my previous 1330 (that I returned), and my mate's 1330 also.

Thx for that thevoice - I suspect there is always going to be an element of that on a laptop chassis.

As I bought my 1530 from the outlet and as the battery was damaged they are giving me a full refund so I will be on the market for another one next week :) I am not put off the brand or model - just want to know what to expect from this budget of laptop.

Will try and download Mujji's but haven't got an account :( Could take a few weeks :D

If people want I could mail them a DVD. Either post me a SAE with a blank DVD and I'll return it the same or next day. Or paypal me some monies and I'll post you one. (mods if I'm breaking rules here, please delete the last sentence)

A full refund just for a cracked battery! Did you not ask for a replacement battery or did you just want to get rid of it due to all the other issues.

If I don't get an LG screen replacement then I might send mine back too. Some things I like, like how the 9 cell battery lifts it off the desk and gives me a nice angle to type on plus the 4+ hrs battery life and the slot load drive. But that's about it.

My keyboard isn't level, there's a slight bulge in the middle like something underneath hasn't been fitted properly. It might be the light as I can only just see it. But the keyboard is nice to use.

I only had a chance to play with it yesterday eve for about 2 hours, I need more time with it to know if I'll keep it or not.

I also experienced the touchpad not responding today when the you resume from standy. A big post on this issue over on notebookreview.

The VAIO SZ used the same Alps touchpad and never had this issue so hopefully a driver update or patch will fix it soon.

Mujja,

I wasn't looking to get rid of it - the helpdesk basically said that as it was an outlet purchase they couldn't guarantee any replacement time so I was better off with a refund so I could puschase again. I agreed with that - they did not give me an option of shipping a replacement battery (which I would have considered).

It's a pain but at least it will give me a system to directly compare with the one I have now. I will be buying another.

Hmm, that didn't work. Magic Iso said it wasn't an .iso file.

Not sure how to join these individual files, perhaps Mujja can expand on the issue?.

winrar right click on one of them once youve downloaded them all and click unrar that should give you the iso

getting an error message when trying to burn saying the block size does not correspond to the image length.

Any ideas?

sorry guys, just got home.

I used 7-zip to create a zip archive. Though something ike winzip or even winrar could open it. If not download 7-zip, it's freeware.

Open the first file, .001 and extrat the .iso from there.

Use Imgburn, it's freeware, to burn to DVD. The ISO is 1.9GB in size.

Conrad, my m1530 came with 2x2GB of RAM. I haven't experienenced any BSODs or any other errors and I've installed Vista 3 times already. And that's 32-bit Vista.

These files aren't the one's I burnt my own Image from. I made a few more customisations to my own.

If no one has any success burning a useabe ISO I'll post out a free DVD to everyone who wasted their time/bandwidth downloading the files. Just send an email to the address in my trust.

Edit : Ignore, files tested and working OK.

I too have a low hiss when I have my Creative Labs Inspire speakers, and the Creative Labs earphones provided with my M1530 plugged in. I only really notice it when I have the volume turned all the way down or muted. 99% of the time I'm using the earphones, but only when I need sound so its not a problem for me

Right, I'm taking the plunge. Just waiting for the right specs to pop up on outlet.

I went to PC WORLD today to check the 1280x800 screen. Can't say I noticed anything but I'm not very good at all this. What I did notice though was that the XPS M1730 next to it had an awesome screen.

Are there any 10% codes around? Link please?

Just Google for them m8, there are usually a few pop up every now and again.

I have to say I've been very pleased with my 1530 so far, its done everything I want it to do that I've thrown at it over the last week or so since I got it, without breaking sweat at all.

For the small extra cost, it's probably worth upgrading from the 1280 screen to the 1440x900 screen.

I did this and I'm happy with the display so far.
