Seagate Barracuda ES.2 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

Unless you need every ounce of performance, the WD GP-2 1TB is a lot cheaper and comes with the same 24/7 raid design and 5 year warrenty as the ES.

Maybe someone could answer a query I have regarding this HDD. I'm upgrading my system at the minute and notice a jumper which when removed increases transfer speeds as far as I'm aware. I have an Asus P5K-E board, will removing the jumper make any difference to me?

Just doing the build over the next day or so whenever I get a bit of time & just wondered about the above.

EDIT: Didn't read the title thread properly, I see the one mentioned is a 1Tb drive. I only have a 500Gb 32Mb cache version, sorry about that but the question still stands though.

In real terms, no. The jumper limits the drive to a 150MB/s interface speed for compatability with older controllers, since the drive can't get close to this for sustained transfers only the burst rate from the cache is improved when the jumper is removed. The burst rate makes virtually no difference to real world performance due to the small amounts of data which are bursted from the cache (far less than the total size of the cache).
