New Car Tax Rates for 2009..

Cars registered before 1st March 2001
up to and including 1549cc - £120
1549cc and above - £185 this year (presumably till march 2009), £200 in 2009/2010

Pure lazyness... good for people with realy naughty C02 emitting cars that are oldish :p

Bad for people like me who are tight with there money and don't put out much C02 :|

The whole C02 thing is a complete load of nonsense though IMO..

Maybe some greenpeace hippy people broke into the blokes house and brainwashed him ? :D

Mine is 223g/km..just inside group K. Will rise from £210 to £300, and then £310 in 2010. Still a bloody rip-off but a bearable increase.

The above rules and these latest changes just show the road tax system for what it really is, a massive money gathering exercise, nothing to do with going green but using the green banner seems to calm/pacify everybody.

Also would it technically not be possible to measure the emissions when a car gets its MOT and tax accordingly? Surely if they wanted to penalise higher CO2 emitters then this would be the sane way to do it?

Buy a years tax in February 2009, giving you until February 2010 before you have to pay the stupid rate of tax. Trade car in for Efficient Dynamics equipped car in 2010*, meaning quicker car with lower tax.

*No, not simply becuase the tax is going up.

I do hope I can buy a Z4 with the new efficient dynamics 3.0 twin turbo lump... it puts out about the same co2 as my 3.0 N/A but offers a gob load more torque and power :D Direct petrol injection with lean burn = win :D

What about people who drive 100,000 miles a year in their Toyota Prius and pollutes the earth more than someone who did 2000 miles a year in their Range Rover?

There should be a pay as you go scheme. Would make a lot more sense to be honest.

what you mean like tax on petrol/diesel already is???? why road tax is needed when we already have a sliding scale (which is too much) is beyond me.

on a side note. my Y2K golf will be fine, and my car after that will be pre 01 and emit as much as possible! lol

spending this much on road tax for me is going to make me want to do a extra 10k miles a year just to get my monies worth....

oh and then you got the whole of the inside of m25 becoming C zone..... £25 a day... nope, gona move away from london instead.

No, there really shouldn't. Whilst what you say makes sense, I think the government should stop tossing about and impose sensible increases as they always have upto recently.

A £20 increase for me next year which is bearable

Government: That'll teach you to pollute our planet! I hope you learn your lesson and stop this anti-earth behavior or we will have to charge you even more.... that way we will have more funds to save our planet with.

:)

Ah having an older car rocks, It dumps unburnt fuel in to the exhaust and does 20mpg but has cheap road (green) tax. :D

What does this mean for bikes? I'm quite tempted to get one to commute on and let Amanda drive the CTR instead of the 206.

Mine will be going up from 185 to 200 in 2010, will probably have changed car by then. We should pool a bunch of money together, and hold an OCUK track event where the winner is the one who gets the lowest MPG.
