Hey guys,

My provisional license arrived yesterday and states that it's valid from today. However, i'm not yet 17, my birthday is on the 29th so i'm not sure if i can drive legally yet.

Anybody have any ideas? My dad seems to think that it should be ok but i want to make sure first. All i'll be doing is going into an industrial estate when it's empty and have a bit of practice driving around/controlling the car.

If it's not legal then i guess i can wait the couple of weeks for my birthday.

Cheers.

:D

I had to wait two months after getting mine before it was my birthday as I sent off for the license at the earliest date that the paperwork stated was possible, to ensure I had my license for my birthday, it took about a week for the application to be processed. :D

Didn't actually get to drive till a few months after my birthday due to car problems. But that was years ago, and it took me 6months from my birthday to pass. :)

Don't let anyone on here hear that though because they never made any mistakes when they were learning!

I made loads. :D

First hill start was because I managed to stall the darn thing on an evil steep hill.

I even stalled 3 times on my test...but ignored it and got on with it, so didn't get marked down.

As above, you can't, legally... but you could use it to ride a moped, however ;) and invader, 6 months? You were daring to post that on here :p 2 months here, one lesson a week ;)

Time frame of 6months...well, close, end March to beginning Sept. Although as I said, started a couple months after my birthday, then only had instructor lessons, 2 hour ones, once a week...some weeks none.

I don't mind admitting it took some time, after all, I'm the quickest learner out of me and all of my mates...most took about a year of lessons...maybe I have thick friends...:p

Also I passed first time...again, unlike many people I know. ;)

And at the end of the day, I have a license, and that's what matters to me. :)

Cheers guys. I'm aiming to get my license before my older brother, he's 19 and very lazy. So long as i do that i'll be happy. I'm a quick learner so hopefully that shouldn't be too difficult, although i expect to make a lot of mistakes :p

Unless your registered disabled then no you cant.
Disabled people can pass their test when they are 16.

Isn't that people on mobility, not necesarrily every form of "disabled".

Ah ok, didnt know that, just cos of my job ive only ever been told he can learn to drive when hes 16, but then he is very disabled. (so would be on the higher rate anyway)

I've got my prov. and I've got 7 months till my 17th unfortunatly. Mainly got it for ID at the bloody cinema around here which refused to let me in a couple of times, stating their policy was to ID anyone under the age of 18 going into certificated films, even though I don't really look that young.

Is it a good idea for him to learn at all, in your opinion?

Some of the adaptions ive seen on the disabled adults cars I know might make it possible, hes 12 next week, and the way he is now I would have to say no it wouldnt be possible, but in 4 years time who knows and also who knows the way in which cars may have moved forward by then.

Id have to say I dont know. Knowing his personality he would love it though, and would be driving about picking his mates up! :D

My best mates bother is a paraplegic. He uses hand controls. He picked us up the other day and I was wondering how it would turn out. He has been driving a year and it's amazing the control he has, despite only using his hands. He's more competent than a number of able bodied drivers I know, especially women :o

Was pretty odd a 16 year old having a 2.0 Focus, but he's a very sensible lad anyway, his condition has set him aside from your usual 17 (as he is now) year old guy.
