3DMark score on E8400 running at 4Ghz
3dm6fz2.jpg

I got about 60 points more with a Q6600 @ 3.5GHz.

@ Makunouchi - What are you using to OC this card? I find Riva Tuner does not work with it, even though you can increase the core clocks and that, it has no effect.

And Crysis with 1.2 patch has massive problems, in some places the frame rate drops massively, a lot lower than my GTX (but with 1.1 i hear its ok, not tried it myself though). I've also noticed with some games that turning AA on kills performance wayyy more than it should. The current 174.53 drivers need a lot of improving.

Crysis Benchmark Tool V1.0.0.5
E8400 @ 4Ghz
BFG 9800GX2

DX9
Run #1- DX9 1280x1024 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 70.345
Run #1- DX9 1900x1200 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 48.265

DX10
Run #1- DX10 1280x1024 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 65.045
Run #2- DX10 1900x1200 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 43.395

When a single card can get 50fps @ 1900x1200 with AA on High, ill buy one. So im a bit disappointed with the 9800GX2, so its pointless buying one!

I was using Rivatuner, but i havent really tested it properly after OCing it so you might be right. Rivatuner definately works for the fan though, cos you can hear that increasing as you tweak it, so its not liek the card is locked or anything. Ill have to do some tests with 3Dmark tomorrow and see if youre right.

Can someone do a 06 run with a Q6600 @ 4 ghz please.

Thanks

I get 17,975 with a Q6600 @ 3.5GHz. Cant reach 4GHz stable. But i know 06 gets just under 20k with a 4GHz quad + 9800GX2.

@ Makunouchi i clocked the core to 650MHz, had no effect at all on my 3Dmark06 score. But the latest RT dont support the 174.53 drivers so i'm sure it's just that.

Didnt you have an X2 before the GX2 ?

If so, what are the noise levels like compared to the X2 at idle / load

:)

Idle is the same, silent. The Auto fan works better on the GX2, but I'd say its a bit louder. Not bad, similar to a 8800GTX, only really noticeable when the GX2 gets over about 60%. Temps are good though around 75C loaded with ozone3d fur.

Can we get some reviews, screenies etc from people that own the card (from in-game)

I've found something odd with the GX2... it might be a problem...

With AA turned on, when i get to a certain amount of AA at 2560x1600 res, i hit a massive drop in frame rates, were talking 2 - 3 FPS here, complete slideshow.

For example, i run Portal, run it with 16xCSAA @ 2560x1600 and get high frame rates, i dont know exactly what, but there totally smooth, so lets say 60+ FPS.
Then i run it with 8xMSAA which is higher quality than 16xCSAA but shouldn't have much effect on performance, as they're almost equal, but then i get around 2 - 3 FPS. For reference, doing this with my GTX would have little or no effect.

This happens with other games i've tried too... with COD4 it's 2xAA and above where it happens. With Bioshock it's 4xAA and above.

My theory is that because this card only has 512MB usable for games, it does not have enough memory for 2560x1600 with AA.

This is backed up by that fact that with games with lower res smaller textures i can turn the AA up more before i hit this massive performance decrease, but with games with higher res textures i only have to have AA on 2x or 4x (as higher AA takes up more memory, and obviously higher res textures do too, so when combined it eats up all the memory).

What do you guys think?
I hope i'm wrong and it's a driver thing.

ouch, you tried to see what happens if you disable one of the cores? maybe its not load balancing properly so is a sli problem
