Hi,

Please can someone in the know help... I have the XFX 780i MB, 2x 8800GTS (G92) and am thinking about buying a Lian-Li PC7 case.

I like the Lian-Li PC7 because it's compact, the HD mounting tray can be removed and because of the 120mm blow-holes etc.

I want to water cool the MB, CPU (E8400) and graphics cards. I was thinking about going for:

2x EK-FC88 GT/GTS (G92) or... 2x XSPC Full Cover Razor 8800GT/GTS (G92)
1x EK-NB 780i
1x EK-Supreme CPU - Plexi or... 1x D-TEK FuZion CPU Block
1x 12V Laing D5 Vario Water Pump (best/most powerful ?)
1x Black Ice GT Stealth III
Reservoir??

I plan on mounting the radiator on-top of the case, on motherboard stand-off pillars... if these will screw into the radiator?
Is the Laing D5 pump powerful enough for the triple radiator, MB block, CPU block and 2x GPU's in SLI? In addition, do I really need a reservoir? I was thinking about a fill-port to save space, however, if it makes the pressure/flow-rate better then I'll make room for a drive-bay reservoir ;-)

Thanks in advance
;)

The D5 will easily cope although some would argue that the DDC with an after-market top is better. But the D5 is fine.

I would recommend the Thermochill PA120.3 over the Black Ice but it is a fair bit more expensive. As for mounting it, one thing to consider is how easily you will be able to get at it to clean it. One way is to use a Swiftech Radbox on the middle fan point of the 120.3 instead of trying to use the rad's corners.

Get the D-Tek - plexi is horrible.

Take a look at the gallery to find some other PC-7s.

A fair bit of heat you're putting into 1 loop , so i would recomend the best radiator - Thermochill PA 120.3.

EK blocks are great.

D-tek fusion or EK supreme with Acetal top.

D5 will be fine.

T-line works as well as a res. and saves space.

So adding a reservoir, hence more water, does not mean better cooling? It just takes longer for the water temp to reach equilibrium I guess?

Does anyone know if MB stand-off's will screw straight into a rad? The rad would look nice on the top of the case I think. I already have a Swiftech RadBox and think it's terrible TBH.

A common myth :) , and it takes a very short time to reach equilibrium.

Your temps will be governed by how huch heat you can dissapate through cooling , not volume .

I'm looking for something with the right sized thread that will screw directly into the rad. MB stand-offs would sit on-top of the case and be secured from inside with the small screws that are normally used to fix the motherboard with. What I'm trying to find out is if the thread is the correct size on the stand-offs? In addition, I know there are not long enough, hence the reason why I'm trying to find 1" versions (like in picture).

It can certainly be done but if you want to know in advance exactly which screws to get, I can't help you. If you can put the MB stand-offs into the case, you must have a tapping kit to do it so surely you can work out the other connections? If you don't have a tapping kit, how do you intend to screw the stand-offs into the case?

 The stand-offs simply would sit upside down on the top of the case with the male thread sticking upwards. The stand-offs are then fixed to the case using the female part that takes the motherboard screw from inside the case lid. The idea is the male part of the thread that normally screws into the motherboard mounting tray would screw directly into the radiator. See picture a few posts up.

Mounting on top of case is fine. OP get some of these screws (google for them) Thermochill Screws for Closed Corner Fans (4 Pack) and get some aluminium tube of appropriate diameter and cut to 25mm and use the tube as spacer over the screws in place of fan.

This does all depend on you getting a thermochill rad though - I have no idea on other screw types for other rads.
