I have to say this news deeply saddened me, I have had the privilege of meeting Marcus and he's not only a superb cricketer but a very decent person as well.
He is in my mind one of the very best england players of the last decade, his contribution was always underrated in my opinion, not least in 2005 where his contribution in runs was second only to Pietersen for either side. I also had the fortune to be at the Oval when he scored 219 against south africa and I've seen few inning better.
He will be much missed by england but it's a great benefit for somerset fans who'll be able to watch all season and I'm sure it'll be very enjoyable.
So I guess, the best of luck to a faithful servant of english cricket...
