*** England vs. New Zealand Cricket (Spoilers) ***

Anderson hasn't been in form at all. He did nothing special in the kiwi state sides and he has been pants in the ODI's, T20's, the past Tests he has played in. He blows hot and cold. His 5fers are usually followed by wicketless tons.

Well on our way here

I'd give Shah a chance think he's earned it through county and one day form. If only we had a Trescothick (but without the family problems) so we could put Vaughan back at three and have some intent at the top of the order.

My god we're being taken to the cleaners now. We got an early wicket but they just carried on and played cricket, rather than the drop anchor we do at the very first sign of trouble. Seen that through and now showing us how easy it is to score on this pitch. 4.72 run rate!!!

Anderson is performing true to form, they should call him aerosol the way he sprays it around.

Paul Collingwood gave an interview just before the start of play, he was asked about the team's bowling and not once did me mention taking wickets he just harped on about keeping the runs down.

Well he's right. On a decent pitch like this all you can do is bowl a decent line and try and stop the batsmen scoring. There's little swing and no bounce so bowling 6 wicket taking deliveries is next to impossible. So you keep the batsmen tied down and wait for them to make a mistake. Not that we can do that of course...

When I played cricket I also tried to bowl the other side out. You can't score runs in the pavillion, that is what I was taught.

If only our top order had the spirit and tenacity of our bowling unit..! Sidebottom - what can you say- absolute model professional - a few bowlers (*cough* Harmison..) would do well to learn from his attitude. Broad - seems to be maturing well in every game he plays - knows how to hold a bat and a cracking bowler - handy.!

*edit*

Perhaps not the easiest batting track after all..! bang - 5 wickets down thank you very much

Lovely stuff, 5 wickets Sidebottom, 137/6

:P I came back from the pub at 12:30am, caught some quality cricket - struggling a little now it's tea though :o

Typical, I watched up until NZ got to about 35, with Fleming going well, so I watched MOTD that I recorded, got distracted and when I tuned back in, they were 6 down, I should have known better.

Now 8 down.:D

Keep not watching it, we're doing pretty well :p Have to say - did not expect catching an England 2nd innings tonight! *fingers crossed..*

Heh absolutely, never a dull day following England cricket - just think, if we played like the Aussies it would get boring pretty quick....or something....apparently.. :p

Sido again :D. Have to say, this Southee kid looks a good prospect for the kiwis though.

Dunno what Vaughan was playing at when he got out, but good recovery from Strauss and Cook. Stage is set nicely for another big KP innings, touch wood.

Just had a look on cricinfo and it's definitely been the bowlers who have saved us in this series. Highest averages are from KP at 46, Colly at 44 and Bell at 35. Compare that to Sidebottom's 23 wickets at 14.24 :D

Can't believe the one night I go to bed that happens. Great stuff from Sidebottom, without him we'd be in trouble. Good support from Broad.

Now we have a chance we need to take it, we could get the series with a good batting performance here. We need to bat the day and a lead around the 400 mark again.

Thats overly simplistic, you can't take a wicket every ball on a pitch like that. It wasn't like sidebottom bowled brilliantly today, their batsmen simply self destructed, I've seen better bowling performances which have got far less reward.

Even the best bowlers do it, warne did it (witness bowling into the rough at brisbane in the last ashes series). But if there's no bounce or swing happening, how exactly do you propose to take wickets?

and Bell now as well, much better innings from him. But why oh why weren't we doing this on day 1 of the series, the top order are so obviously capable of taking new zealand to the cleaners...
