The my favourite book thread

Narnia chronicles, ever since i read them as a kid i just keep going back to them every year.

Amazing books, I was never a great fan of 'story' books even when I was young but one Christmas my auntie brought me the Narnia Chronicles, at first I was like meh, but then bored one day I thought I'd give them a go and boy am I glad I did, very temped to pick them up again now, anyway thanks for the recommendation it brought back some good memory's.

As for my own recommendation it's really hard to try and pick just one, atm I would probably have to say, 'Man's Search For Meaning' by 'Vikore E. Frankl', I choose this book mainly because of the struggles that I'm encountering in my life atm and as this is a true story of a man who had to endure being held captive for three years at Auschwitz, Dachau, during World War 2, it kind of helps put my problems into perspective.

I would have to go with Louis de Bernieres South American Trilogy, 'The War of Don Emmanueles Nether Parts', 'Senor Vivo and the Coca Lord' and 'The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman'.

I'm going to try and sneak this in as one choice.

I don't think I've read enough amazing books to really have a favourite, but I thoroughly enjoyed Jude the Obscure - Thomas Hardy, and For Whom The Bell Tolls - Ernest Hemingway when I read them.

ooooh, great thread!

I DON'T KNOW, DO I?? :D

Um. Catch 22 (Heller) maybe. Brave New World (Huxley), 1984 (Orwell) are all up there for me.

But at the moment the best book I've read is The People's Act of Love, just brilliant!

It will definately have changed by tomorrow though.

If I had to pick one, I would probably go with All Quiet On The Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque. It's just... powerful. It moves me.

Absolutely beautiful read from what I remember. Not been back to it for six years or so now but I really enjoyed it. Also did you like the film Mohinder?

Can't say I'm a big fan on 1984. Struggled to read it because I found it very dull. A book has to flow for me to enjoy it.

If you want a powerful end of the world book, try On the Beach, Nevil Shute.

All Quiet on the Western Front is up there.

But personally I fine Apsley Cherry Garrard's Worst Journey in the World the only book I can read again and again, a true tale of friendship and loss.

Clive Barker fan, so either Weaveworld or Imajica for me. I like the idea of parallel worlds and the detail into which Clive writes is amazing.

The Thief of Always was very good, aimed at young adults, but worth a read. Sort of a cross between Harry Potter and Hellraiser.

First Into Action

Good variety between undercover stuff with the det and sf operations with the SBS, along with the lifestyle they lead. Witty, down to earth and easy to read.
