Is the Q9450 really in stock on the 10th?

I keep hearing one thing then the other RE this. Any one else want to chime in?

Well s771 chips are different cores so lets ignore those for the moment, I have never seen anything solid to suggest the S775 Xeons have anything different other than the CPUID. Of course some people will tell you the Xeons are picked from better sillicon but I fail to understand why Intel would do this as the reliability of any of the core based cpus is generally excellent.

Apparently, there seems to be limited stock in Singapore and Korea for the moment, maybe other places as well. Greece is getting some in stock from Monday as well...

I was just quoting from what I had read elsewhere.

Who cares when its in stock, Nehalem is not long off. Save your money until then,

who cares when nehalem is in stock.... you may as well wait til the next generation after nehalem. then wait for the tech after that. and so on and so forth... dont need 8 cores. dont really need 4 tbh...

also... if intel is taking so long to get the yorkie's out, what makes you think they will be anywhere near on time with nehalem??...

Why would a HTPC need a quad core? :D I would think you would value a) low power consumption and b) low noise

Both of which are well served with a dual core. Unless you are moving your existing CPU to the HTPC.

But then my HTPC will have no cpu for months...

Do you know of a special trick to get it working without a cpu :p

I've heard you can insert a jaffa cake if you just want browsing and some low end gaming, don't go overclocking though as they only seem stable at stock.

If anyones got some jaffa cake bench marks please post up as i'm tempted to go that route myself.

Agreed, having owned a few 775 xeons i don't see any performance difference in benches or real life. Overclockability is about the same. Only advantage of better silicon i can see is maybe more tolerance to vcore fluxuation/undervolting (though the board regulators should take of that to begin with?) and maybe a lil more tolerance to high temperatures (stability wise) and even thats just my speculation.

they say a jaffa cake is roughly the same as a amd 64 3500, although you gotta cover it in tin foil first

Because any video encoding i do,will be done on my HTPC system.....Plus i want to play Flight Simulator X on my 50" 1080p TV screen...

Quality :D

My 3060s bench exactly the same as an E6600. I wonder if anyone has actually asked Intel...

I really do think its BS, the CPUs are the same steppings and everything I find it hard to believe they would go to all the hasstle of having different internal microcode (how would that be possible when using the same core?)and having different prefetchers.

If you asked Intel they would probably say the Xeon is for UNiprocessor servers and the Core2 is for desktops

I don't think you'd get a straight answer from Intel, they'd be admitting its just a 'name' if they told you the truth no? :D Like i said there was no difference whatsoever between my 775 Xeons and Core 2 cpus in anything. This includes doing actual server work before some smart aleck pops up and tells me in a server environment you'd see the difference :p

I'll stick with my guess of this week which I made before the weekend. From what I read somewhere else (can't remember atm) the first batch were in OEM machines, with the second batch going on general sale.

Some feedback from OC would be appreciated. Even to say they have no idea when they will arrive. At least we would know where we stand.
