Asus x38

Cracking board now that we have a couple of decent bios revisions. Had my Q6600 up to 3.8ghz, E8500 to 4.5Ghz and now my E6600 to 3.6Ghz with more to come. The ram in your siggy probably won't work with it though. Mine did'nt so i had to get the Ballistix.

Just switched to a P5E after a P5K Deluxe...was thinking it wouldn't clock as well but I was wrong!

467fsb so far using the Rampage bios.

It's a cracking board and I can't wait til my 3870 comes so I can pair it with my 3850 and have my first dual gpu setup! :)

Seems hit or miss really, my ballistix are totally unstable in 2 of the slots, but in slots 1 and 3 clock just as well as on my P5K (1200mhz 2.2v 5,5,5,15....1178 2.16v 5,5,4,13)

Never had a problem with my Ballistix with any of the bios revisions. Currently running mine at 1066mhz with timings of 5-4-4-9 and most of the minor timings tightened up too. The thing with Ballistix is that they have always been fairly unreliable no matter what board you have. Even the old DDR Ballistix was dying like there was no tommorrow. These forums were full of threads saying "my Ballistix is dead" or "another Ballistix kit bites the dust".

pastymuncher...a question for you.....what cooler was you using re Q6600

apparently the chipset likes Powerchips chips, like OCZ Reaper, or Gskill 8000's etc am i right in thinking that Crucial removed the ballistix from the x38 chipset supported thingy?

They have removed all but the PC2-5300 Ballistix. Apparently the Gskill (6400HZ, 8000) stuff is the best and highly regarded over at XS.

Mine keeps crashin after updating latest BIOS 605 had read somewhere that it was there best one,
Been workin late and have not had much time to trouble shoot.. and may revert back to 107 I had no trouble with that one,

The only thing is that quads are not properly supported until 201. How much ram do you have? If you are running 4x sticks try increasing the NB voltage a notch or two. Did you clear cmos and then re-enter all the settings in the bios after you flashed? How did you flash? EZ flash (ALT+F2 on booting) or the windows utility which is pants?

Well on the normal P5E bios I was only able to get to 440fsb...but I didn't really try for too long either.

The main difference are all the extra memory tweaking options the rampage bios gives you.

I was getting 475 fsb with a quad on bios 502. With 605 i had 520 fsb with a E8500 (still had more to come but i got fed up spending day after day testing). You have to play around with the motherboard voltages quite a bit to get a decent fsb. Still have'nt seen a reason to flash the Rampage bios yet.

I am after a stable clock of 3.6 with my quad on air would this be acheivable with standard bios???

The temps on my current set up are killing me, and I have had to clock it back to 3ghz for this reason, load temps with P95 small ffts were 72. I am also considering lapping cpu whilst changing MB to asist temps even more. I have thought about WC but cost is the killing factor for small gains

Changing motherboards will not change your temps. If you need to change anything it may be your case or fans. You need to optimise your airflow or try re-seating your heatsink.

I had a stable (prime small fft's, 24hours) 3.8Ghz with a Q6600 on this board with bios 502 (latest is 605 and even better) and watercooled. Idle temps were 28 degrees and prime load was 62 degrees.
