God I hate the dentist.....had an appointment today for a filling after one of my teeth chipped...was so sensitive for her to work on she needed to inject my gum twice to numb it....and 3hrs later the feeling has finally come back....

how long do you lot leave it before eating after dentist work like that?

Oh no, you can't eat solids ever again. Didn't they tell you that

Seriously though, call up and ask them or you might find yourself going back sooner than you'd hope.

The cost of dentist work I really do feel like giving up all solids and food altogether...even if I have cut out all sugar and rubbish from my diet.

No luck with dentist, closed for the night.....filling itself feels hard enough so I'm resorting to chewing on one side with small portions

If anyone is young enough to consider becoming a dentist, go for it now!!

I had to go to an emergency dentist a few Sundays ago, I was in pain so got there early, it wasnt even open yet.

Hey presto up turns the dentist 10 mins late in a lovely brand new Bentley Continental GTC:(

What kind of dentist is this? All the fillings now they use sets immediately. They use that blue light gun thing to set it right there and then.

As for the numbness, would you have preferred she didn't? So, what if its 3 hours? What did you think anesthetics just disappears the moment you step out of the door ?

I spent the last 6 months in on and off agony from my front teeth which were damaged when I was attacked in the street a few years ago. I have had to have all my top front teeth out and because I dont have dental insurance, it would cost £2000 per tooth to be replaced. I had to go NHS and paid about £600 in the last 6 months. I have spent weeks at a time with swellings and agony. I now have a false set at the front and can finally eat proper food again. Not being able to bite of chew properly is a nightmare. I just thought I would share my hell with anyone who can be bothered to read it. Its all better now. Oh and today I got the job interview I was going for so hopefully that will go well too.

I've pulled my last few out myself & eaten within a few hours, Well once the blood has stopped ****** everywhere.
Hurt a lot less after i had pulled them than it did before so meh, JD.

No course not, I was just saying...not moaning!

But it was an NHS dentist, but they didnt use the blue light gun to set the fillings.

Now this is a man's man ! :D

For me it's just about inflicting the pain myself rather than being able to let somebody else inflict pain on me. I have quite a bit of experience of pain & suffering with it rather than being able to drug myself out of it. The whole thought of going & sitting in a chair & letting somebody else rip a tooth out gives me the heeby jeebys, Grabbing hold of it myself & wiggling & yanking it out i can deal with. The Sparta feeling you get afterwards is your reward :p

I've had enough of dentists

had a problem with a premolar, took 10 visits to finally sort

first root canal treatment

1 visit to check it out and then 3 more for the treatment

a few weeks later I fractured it vertically and ended up having part of it removed on Christmas day

visit 6 was to assess next action, crown was decided on

visit 7 for prep for crown

visit 8 , went for crown byt had broke the prep work, had it redone

visit 9, crown didn't fit

visit 10 finally sorted , though I look like a ***** if I smile as the new tooth is gold :D

I offically love dentists. 3 weeks ago i was in absolute agony with the tooth on bottom at the back. I had cracked part of it off eating a mint, the pain was constant and immense, i was unable to sleep and i also suspected it of being the cause of the migraine i was dieing from. Im not registered with a dentist, not been since i was 16 approx 10 years ago, paid approx £43 for an emergency dentist to pull the tooth. I got 10 injections and an hour in the chair :D

Got my moneys worth, my tooth had 2 roots which were hooked at the bottom, in the end had to drill the tooth into 2 piece and pull 1 root at a time. It came out eventually though. Im now pain free, no tooth ache, no headache. Best £43 ive spent in my life!!

What problems do you have? Sensitive to touch, heat, cold etc?

Was it a deep filling? if so, it might just take a week or so for the pulp to settle down, this might be whats causing the afterpain. Speak to your dentist tho, chances are he will say leave it and use paracetemol to control the pain for now.

If painkillers get rid of the pain, chances are the filling is fine just might need a few days for it to settle.
