The Fountain (new Aronofsky movie)

I think I really liked this movie, but I'm not quite sure. I think it needs another watch before I make my judgement. Regardless the visuals were unbelievable, and Hugh Jackman really impressed me in the lead role. Definitely worth watching but I'm not sure it ranks alongside Pi and Requiem.

I'm completely numb from my toes to the tips of my hair - that film just stunned me with a sledgehammer and tore my guts out with a chainsaw!

Pi and Requiem were a lot more focussed and intense, but this film has such a broader sweep than either of his previous ones that it raises you so much higher, and when it inevitably dashes you to the ground you fall THAT much harder, and it hurts...

/orders soundtrack!

PS. Jackman was good, especially in the Mayan and future sections, but I didn't like him at all as the doctor. Rachel Weiszc too, she was stunning as the queen but felt oddly bland as Izzy. I think Aronofsky sold out in his casting: those two roles really BELONGED to Sean Gulette and Jennifer Connelly - he's got that scary intensity in his manner that really made him shine in Pi, and she's got that odd slightly creepy glint in her eye that I noticed in all her movies and would've made her perfect as Izzy. I'm glad he at least used some of the other actors from his previous films though!

I've just been thinking what a shame it was that they pulled Aronofsky off Batman Begins and gave it to Nolan. I loved Nolan's film but I would be very curious to see what Aronofsky could do with an adventure-type film with a straightforward plotline.
The Fountain might've had the production values of a blockbuster but it was really an art-house film, just like his previews 2 flicks, in that it was basically exploring an idea rather than telling a story. And while Aronofsky makes great art-house films, if he would turn his hand at a blockbuster and make it with the same kind of sensitivity and originality, it would create something cmpletely new that'll set a standard for all other Hollywood directors!
i'm really hoping his Lone Wolf materialises, I think the result might b something really special!

I watched this on Sky recently and it really touched me, such a beautiful film and such an emotional story. I've bought the film and the soundtrack, the score is superb. Couldnt recommend it enough. Also, Huge Jackman is outstanding as the lead, I felt and believed every moment.

Saw this thread and decided to get a copy - loved the film, although it'll take a few more viewings to fully understand it I think!

Shall be getting hold of the soundtrack too - really brilliant score :)

I can sit through most any film. Even when I am not particularly enjoying a film, I will sit through to the end, just in case there is some redeeming quality...

This film I turned off after 20 minutes. Annoying, pretentious, boring... stunning visuals alone do not a good film make.

PS - I do enjoy some arty films, including one of his previous, Requiem.

20 minutes is a pathetic amount of time to give a film and then to act like you can actually have any kind of valid judgement on it.

Its an outstanding film, one if not my most favourite. It has to be seen all the way through or none of it makes any sense. Even then it takes a little reflection to understand.

I've watched this film 3 times now, and each time I think it's the only film I've left on, sat and stared at the screen deep in thought while the credits role, listening to the beautiful music.

You can't quit this film, you have to watch it all the way through as already said. It's beautiful, and enlightening.

Watched this twice. No doubting it looks great and sounds great. But the actual movie itself is a load of pretentious ****.

im not sure about referring to Pi and Requiem as 'art house' films. They both tell a story quite clearly and although the direction is not standard neither film just explores an idea without a clearly formed narrative.

Either way, i havent seen Fountain yet, but I will check it out as soon as i can..... but i doubt it'll show in sth Korea :(

Tis a rather good film dude. Visually speaking it's pretty immense.

Had this film for a long time now and not got round to watching it till tonight... Not sure why I didn't get round to it before cause it was absolutely brilliant. The soundtrack was incredible. I knew Clint Mansell was good but... Wow. I agree, the visuals are stunning. Not many films make me think after I've actually finished the film, but I can now add this to that small list.
