Triumph TT600

watch out for the finish m8, every recent triumph I've seen all fixtures and fittings turn to dust at the first sign of rain... nice bikes though, just need tlc to keep them in nice nick.

Not sure I'd agree with that. The finish on modern (post '95ish) triumphs is at least as good, and often better than Japanese. My Tiger was 8 years old and as st0rmer will testify it looked literally brand new and had been ridden through winters. It looked a lot better than my ZX9 or CBR600 of similar ages.

Only thing you do find with them is the engineering can be suspect, presumably because they dont have the same r&d budget, but also because they tend to use cheaper cycle parts. Shocks tend to go off sooner, you get the odd leak here and there, but overall I enjoyed my Triumph ownership. There is something special about owning a british bike and I'd definitely have another one, maybe a Street Triple, Daytona 675 or if they ever made a Daytona with with the 1050 engine that would be an awesome bike.

I agree with that. a close friend had a 2001 tt600 and all he did was complain about the corrosion (well okay he complained about other problems with it as well), but in there defence he did ride every day (like myself) in all weathers but after a year it was toast, all furred up ,and its not to say he didnt look after it cos he did, but I'd like to say my italian steed has had 6 years of all weathers and looks good still.

I'd take a TT600 over any of the 'other' 600's any day.

The Triumph has character (good and bad) and is way more fun to ride in the real world than the competition.

Just do it !

i've had a couple of jap bikes, not ready for an italian stallion so thought I'd give the TT a go - we'll see! I have a few different bikes lined up but I do feel like trying something "different" :)

I used to own a Speed Four (naked TT600, slightly changed cams for more midrange but otherwise identical to the TT), moved up to a Speed Triple 1050 since.

The handling and brakes for the TT/S4 are excellent, very easy to flick around even though they weigh more than most 600`s.
They are somewhat uncomfortable over time however, the pegs are VERY high and can lead to achy knees after a short amount of time.
They sound ok, no as good as my 1050, the stock can sounds like a large sewing maching.
Stick a good can on there however and they sound quite grunty.

The fueling IS NOT fixed by an ECU update, the fuel glitch is still there but its shoved down to the 2500-3000 range.
You know when you have found the glitch as the bike bucks like a horse.
Only wasy to fix it is a Tuneboy/Powercommander tune.

Great, under-rated bikes overall.
Far more character than any Jap bike IMHO.

Thanks for the info - I thought the revised 2002 models had ironed it out, it's not a problem though as a good can powercommander is almost a pre-requisite for me :D

Well I've been to see 5 different ones - and I have now put down a deposit for a 12k mile, silver TT600 (2002 model). It's been powercommandered so that quirky flat spot is no more! I'm off to NY so I won't pick it up for a few weeks - I can't wait! :D The can's in good nick and sounds great, however, I can't stop myself from probably getting a new one :o It sounds great, tips in nicely, looks great, and feels solid and planted - got to 110 rather quickly too :D At last I'm no longer bikeless! \o/

Only pics I have:

Well if I'm honest I'm no expert rider, it's got more than enough oomph for me and about 10bhp more than my last bike. IT's fast enough to kill me and also to beat most vehicles - so that has enough guts for me :D I can understand though that from the 130bhp 600s it does feel a little gutless, however with the power commander tune it does seem a completely different bike to the other TTs I've ridden.

it wasn't a criticism to be honest, i was just kinda of backing up what you thought with what someone who knows how to ride a bike properly thought. ;)

most 600s are good for 160+ on the clock which is plenty quick enough. :)

powercommanders should come as standard fit on bikes to be honest, although it is amazing how bikes can be released with all kinds of fuelling glitches yet a product like power commander can eliminate it almost immediately. makes you wonder what the test riders are playing at?

Oh don't worry I didn't take it as such, just making it clear to people who may not be aware of a) bikes b) chris walker :)

Besides a bikes only as good as it's rider - so in my case, crap! lol!

I agree about powercommander - it's such a simple fix it's odd it's not done by default - it really transforms the bike.

looks real nice, ya gonna have some fun this summer for sure (if we have one this year)

agree on pc comments, being able to map bike, and continue to remap when you fancy fitting the odd mod is great

Built not a mile away from where i sit, well maybe 2 miles.
Once a year we get all the European owners over for a Rally to the factory, If you ever do it you know there is space on my floor & somewhere Real safe to park the bike for the night.
Congratz mate, Have fun.
