New BBC News and Sport Websites

I think it looks really good, but there is quite a bit of wasted space there still. Prefer it to the old look.

BBC has always been light on non-text content, and I far prefer that over a site bloated with flash or showing videos I probably didn't want to watch. Flash (inc. flash videos) are used, but only where they're needed. There's even a few bits of AJAX scattered around.

Anyway, back to the site, there's a fair few bugs to work out of the template yet (unexplained changes in font size, for example). I'm sure they'll get it sorted.

I agree but a live video of bbc24 wouldn't go amiss. But the plain look, looks very dated. You can still get a sleek modern look without flash etc. Just by using good images. Even the red bbc banner looks poorly compressed and faded.

Not a huge fan of it, have had some formatting problems in stories with quotes being a tiny font size etc.

It's OK, but I would have expected a nicer layout that didn't waste so much space.

It's ok, you'll get used to it, then in a few years time they'll change it again, and you'll wish it was back to how it is now..!!

give it time, its better then no news at all....:D

I'm not sure I'm tempted to have sky news as my home page. It might be slightly less biased :D

As I posted in the HTML+Graphics forum on this very subject, I dislike the wasted padding/margins in between every line/block.

Looks a lot nicer than the old dated site, I like how everything looks centred and fills up more of my screen the old one used to leave a massive space of white on the right half of my screen, looked a bit naff. I've liked the improvements to the BBCs internet services recently, well done to them.

Me too - this is my only real bugbear with the new site. I now have to scroll down where I didn't have to before. And what's with the two headers? The black BBC one is a waste of space and that search box looks awkward.

I quite like it myself, there's a lot of room there, plenty white space and what have you, but the best thing I like about it is the fact that they've dropped the 800x600 resolution in favour of the 1024x768 resolution.

The rest of the site is still 800x600 though but I guess they'll be updating that pretty soon.
