The **OFFICIAL** Nvidia lynch mob thread

People are convinced that its "ati's fault" that nvidia has no killer card out right now.

That’s because it's the truth, lack of competition equals no reason for them to release anything radically different, especially when products based on G92 and even G80 are still selling so well, but you believe whatever helps you sleep at night.

Intel the giant chipset and CPU maker is working its way into the graphics market with larrabee. The future of graphics seems to be limited by how much stuff the CPU can send to the graphics card to be processed.

So the natural progression is to move the GPU closer to the CPU. Hence AMD/ATi's Fusion chip. Then later the GPU and CPU will be as one.

Both Intel and AMD/ATi will have this capability in the future. This is why AMD had to buy ATI, to stay ahead of the game and keep in touch with intel. And this is why some believe Nvidia is gonna sink like the titanic.

aren't Nvidia trying to buy VIA for the X86 license, just to keep up with ATi/AMD's fusion and Intel's own mix, or have VIA told Nvidia where to go as that's gone quiet over the past week or so

think there was some talk about them buying via a while back. Thing is tho nv are going to be the ones left behind as intel and amd/ati have other soultions

But they do keep releasing cards that's the point , the same one's or worse for more money in the latest case.
Nvidis'a new cards are competing with the old cards, and some of the old cards are winning on price and performance, so Nvidia are killing off the old cards.
If you got a 8800gts in the last few months with intentions of SLI' ing in the next couple of months you might not be able to buy a new card, but if that business is based around selling a card and a motherboard as a "scalable upgrade path" then surely it makes sence to support your product for more than a few months ? or a least let your customers know if the cards they are buying are only going to be stop gap products with a short production life.

At the end of the day Nvidia is a business set up to make money and thats what they are doing at the moment and because the graphics card market is only made up of them and ATI they can pretty much do what they want. I dont think they care much about the people who buy high end cards as they make most of there money on low-mid price cards. I know people are p***** of with nvidia but this will all be forgotten when they produce another 8800GTX type card in the future. :D

ATI(AMD) are quite happy at the moment. They have the OEM market and low-mid end quite well covered if you ask me. They're driver quality is far better than Nvidia's now IMO.

But they do keep releasing cards that's the point .

Of course they are, G92 is cheaper to produce then G80, why continue making an expensive GPU when a cheaper one clocked higher will do the same job and require less power.

It's a similar story with 2900XT to 3870XT, only difference is there slower so need to be priced lower to compete, but I don't see you bitching about them.

All of my ATI cards have been brilliant. My radeon 9200, to 9800 pro, to a X1950XT. Those cards rocked. The last decent Nvidia card I remember was my GeForce 2, which lasted my absolutely ages. When I wetn from my ATI X1950XT to a Nvidia 8800 card, I wasn't the slightest bit impressed, even more when I found temperatures higher under load, and performance very small to my eyes, when I took into account the cost of it...

I thats the whole point, Nvidia are charging a higher price for somthing thats cheaper to produce and perfoms worse, and bitching has nothing to do with anything, just facts please.

There were a few bad points that were fixed/improved with the 38** that they need to do with the 2900 and it having a bad rep as well didn't help

And there were a few bad points fixed with G92 too, in many ways the 8800GTS/9800GTX are better cards then the 8800GTX/Ultra, it's just gaming isnt one of them. :p

I love how you totally disregard the part of my post that could be entirely possible.

I also love the "whatever helps you sleep at night part" considering ive owned ultras, gt's and gtx's. Love how people try to push the fanboy card.

I never said it wasn’t possible, I just don’t believe it’s true, in fact I think it’s nonsense as there’s no evidence to suggest there having problems. but it makes perfect sense for them to continue releasing refreshes at this point in time.

If you want to believe speculation over reason then do so, I don't care. :p

Got shot ages ago, as all i use my rig for now is the net, as i got sick of no games to play, as they've dried up now as they keep getting delayed, and i got sick of nothing new card wise as well, sick of them still churning out 8800's from 2006 when were now in 2008, so i said **** this **** and downgraded as its crap.:D

Im thinking that too, i might just get myself a nice a laptop and maybe a PS3 for gaming.

Actually, having seen the 9800GTX prices and all the 8800 series taking a tumble I'm less inclined to whinge.

Fact: the 9800 cards offer little benifit over the 8800 cards

Fact: they are a lot more expensive

(possible) Fact: The 9800 cards dont cost much to make as they are an evolution of the 8800

Fact: Dispite this, people keep buying them...

I fail to see why any business would see this as a bad situation to be in? Chuck out old kit rebadged for a hiked price and people still buy them... Its a business gold mine. NVidia are not stupid. They know that midrange graphics are difficult and competitve, and high end users are more concerned over epeens, meaning they can chuck out cards that they know hardcore gamers will buy regardless, and reap the rewards.

I just hope they put the profits to good use.
