Peugeot 306, Whats the catch (First car idea)

306 is still my plan. However I *might* be getting a 1.4 106 D for stupidly cheap.

So what I will probably do is 106 > 306 > Focus in the long run :)

I realise the 106 isn't a fantastic car but its cheap to insure and I *might* be able to pick one up for Circa £200. (Possibly less).

If however I don't manage to get it, then it will be 306 as normal.

Getting a cheap to buy and even cheaper to run car to get you on the road for the first time is no bad thing IMO. Even if its the worst car in the world it will be yours and driving it around will feel awesome. Plus upgrading to a nice 306 in a year or two will feel like a nice upgrade.

Cool.

(And I'll be "upgrading" in autumn probably) Hopefully that will be around when the novilty wares off as well :p Should work out pretty well!

Cor they arn't nice quotes insurance wise! Just ran 306 TD through confused (not great but gets a comparison) and got £1997.91 fully comp..... that's with my age a year higher so I can legally drive and nobody else on the policy.

The 306 1.9DT is a super car for a first time driver.

They handle well, they drive well, you can fix them on the cheap and is leaps and bounds better than most in it's insurance group.

The engine is bullet proof. The XUD was desgined in the late 80's and can easily do 250k. As the engine is mechanical, they are very easy to tune etc.

I'd be going for one of these on your budget. It will hammer any 1.0,1.1 and 1.2/1.25 due to the torque the thing has.

I'd strongly consider a 106 XS/XSi as these are also, fun to drive.

I get my 306DT insurance for £150 a year :p

I don't have one. :p

I was just pointing out how I have an awesome postcode really...and that I'm slightly older. But with one of the accidents being in Jan this year I was impressed it wasn't too big a price as I figured I'd be classed as worse than a new driver. :)

Pff 106 deal feel through. Mate paid £200 for it. Plus a £70 windscreen and a £30 mot and he expects to sell it for £600. Some prat has already offered him £450, which isn't too far over its value on autotrader and places similar. Only difference being he knows it only cost £200!

Ah well can't say im too bothered 306 it is ;)

I'd never seen anything suggesting the 306 was Galvanised, I replaced mine with a VW Bora and thought it was was the first galvanised car I owned. Most cars are pretty rust resistant nowadays, unlike the dark days of the 80s where Fords and Vauxhalls were made out of recycled washing machines.

Galvanising does work - I hit a gatepost in the Bora and took a wheelarch down to bare metal - 12 months later it was still rust free.

Wish I had £400 today. Got an offer from one of the polski night staff at work. Sounded okay. (80k on the clock. 19 D Turbo 5dr, no aircon but mind condition, well as mint as you'd expect for a 95) (think he said 95, couldnt really understand him).
