Dunn's River Nourishment Cans

Personally I'd concentrate on your diet and get all your nutrients and nourishment from food rather than a poor substitute. As an emergency or if you miss a meal for whatever reason, sure, but not as something I'd rely on. But that's probably just me. I aim for between 3-3.5k calories a day as a minimum for my gym/exercise work. Somtimes touching 4k when on a serious bulk. However I'd never choose to drink/eat anything like this I'm afraid - there's just no need.

Disagree for people like me. When i go back to the gym next week (away from being a borderline alcy :P), i'll be back on my diet of 5-6 meals a day. It's the only way for me to gain bulk in a reasonably fast time. This of course coupled with gym 3-4 times a week, with light exercise/rest inbetween.

Breakfast - Cereal (special K is good, or weetabix)
~10.00am - Shake
Lunch - Chicken salad/tuna sandwich (anything thats a good source of protein really)
~3.00pm - Snack: Some fruit, cereal bars, veg.
~ 6.00pm - Main meal: Lean meats/ whole eggs (my favourite)/ fish/ poultry accompanied with pasta/rice/veg.
~9.00pm (assuming a 10.30-11pm sleep) - Snack or shake.

6 small meals a day. Shakes make it so much easier, and getting high amounts of protein every day isn't easy, especially at work.

wouldn't touch them. people saying its good for body building need to sort out a proper diet rather than drink this stuff.

far far too much sugar and fat.

only on a very very rare occasion would i even consider it.

its very easy, bulk unflavoured whey in a shaker. much much cheaper and not full of sugar.

Yes but you and I are different - we spend hours learning/perfecting our knowledge of nutrition and exercise. We take it seriously (as results can be clearly seen) a lot of people go by hear-say.

Whey protein, hmm. I used to use Maximuscle Cyclone. Makes me feel sick, gives me headaches and turns my wee fluorescent. Also made my kidneys hurt on occasions, maybe unrelated, but worrying.

On that note though, whole eggs are 98% useable protein, whey is 100%+ apparently, i'd go with whole eggs to be safe. Also, the vitamins in the shake seem handy.

Well I've only ever drunk one in my life :p

Its the amount of additives that worries me, the sugar and salt. What is the need for it?

My gut feeling is that there's nothing bad about them but that they're not something that should be had often.

Well if you buy inferior protein what do you expect! ;) It's easy to load up your diet with all the nurtients/nourishment you need - it just takes some research, effort and dedication. there's more to protein than eggs you know...

On a side note:

Eggs are easily the best natural source of protein in food form - Is there an easy way to shell the dam things or somewhere i can get them pre-boiled lol. Or snack wise, something else that is as good.

pretty much like a mars bar really. or anything thats tasty but should be consumed in moderation. iim sure there's no need at all. actually thinking about it i've no idea why they make them that sweet.

As an occaisional one off, no nothing wrong with them. Being used regularly and as a replacement or as an alternative - then it's no good.

Why use effort when it comes in a can? :D

I'd prefer to eat 6 perfectly balanced meals a day, but planning and varying that just seems a logistical nightmare, let alone expensive. You can take the 3 or so meals to work daily, pain in arse, buying it would cost a bomb (i spend a lot at lunch as it is).

Erm no they're not, they're good but they're not as rich in protein as fish (especially oily fish), red meats (especially beef) and chicken.

You don't know how to boil an egg?

Well if you're not willing to put the effort then there's no helping you! ;)

I'm up every day for work at 5am. I get home at 6pm. I go to the gym 4x a week, and play squash/sports 2x a week when not at the gym. I prepare my lunch/meals for the next day the night before. I have time to cook, do some personal admin, spend some time on the forums, watch a bit of tv/read a book, tidy the house, see my other half, do some washing etc...

There's no excuse IMO - other than pure laziness.
