Calling all 30" Dell Owners with 3870X2's & HD/Blu-Ray Drives

I have nothing to bring to this thread, but I can say playing Team Fortress 2 @ 2560x1600 is awesome :)

In the latest drivers I can see that I have the option to use the Dell 30" as a HD Screen. Indeed if I select it then it resizes at 1920x1080. I do not have a blu ray drive to test :(

sold my x2 but my 30" dell is here

get a hdtv gx2 and hdmi cable lol

f* off - and to whoever said get a 32" lcd for 1080p it WONT be 1080p as far as i know the only display to nativly support this are 37" but prove me wrong.

and im only paying £200 to upgrade from my current screen to the 30" and i couldnt have gotten a decent LCD for that.

Jihad actually said 37". And I would agree with him, gaming at 1920 x 1080 on a 1080p native set is the way forward IMO and you wont get scaling on HD material (unless 720p of course). Got to be a decent panel though.

my mistake sorry about that, yeah a decent 37"+ Panel isnt cheap and id rather have the extra res for other things!

EDIT:

Looks like i'm getting a GX2 anyway so if anyone has one of those that could try it also LOL

StevenG

Why get a gx2 as its basically 2 8800s taped together so if 1 8800 would not play anything then how is 2 going to play anything lol. I assume you meant it would not play any hd stuff and not games as thats a different story lol.

It might have been said already, but you do know the 3008 is out? It's better in every way over the 3007. I see you already have the 3007 now though lol...

But the 3008 has WAY more inputs:
1x VGA (Analog)
2x DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP
1x HDMI
1x S-Video
1x Component
1x Composite
1x DisplayPort

And it can display more colours. Even if it's more expensive, it's still worth saving up for over the 3007 because it's so much better.

I've run my 3008 on a 8800GTX and 9800GX2, not had trouble with any of them playing anything. But i've not tried Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. However because the 3008 has HDMI i use my PS3 on it over that, and Blu-Ray looks really great.

Theres a thread on it here.

Also about HDTV vs a 30" monitor, i have a 46" HDTV (1080p) and the 3008 craps on it. Yes 1080p material stuff has to be scaled to fit 2560x1600, but because there is way more pixels on the screen than with a 1080p TV the scaling is extremely good. I always use my PS3 and 360 on the 3008 over my two 1080p HDTV's because it's just better. Each of my 1080p TV's cost atleast 2k aswell so they're not exactly crap ones. I find with every single person who says otherwise has never used a 2560x1600 monitor, so just ignore 'em.

After using a 40" 1080p screen for br's /hd-dvd's I would find it very hard to go back to a 30" monitor (without even considering moving the whole sitting room all around with amp and full sized speakers around the pc/monitor)

Im not disputing the quality of the picture would be better, I havent seen as high a res monitor to know - but to lose 10" would always feel disappointing to me

(which is why Im trying to save up for a decent 1080p projector and screen :D)

As far as I could tell the 8800GTX/Ultra was not actually HDCP compatible (at least I could never get them to work with my 3007).

Why does the GPU have to be HDCP compatible? Surely that would mean a GTS 640 would not work with a non HDCP compatible monitor too? Only heard of these problems were a PS3 needed a HDCP compatible monitor to work.

Could you not just use something like this HD/Blu Ray and AnyDVD HD? Would solve all the HDCP headaches?

Oooh does this solve the HDCP issue then? I would so buy AnyDVD if it did since I'm getting a S-IPS 24" which has no HDCP support over DVI so if AnyDVD rids a BRD/HDDVD movie of HDCP then awesome stuff right there!

The GPU needs to be HDCP compatible otherwise you could conceivably record the output of the GPU in an unprotected but perfect quality digital state.

they are compatible....sort of lol. there are problems with the g80's, i cant get HD playback working on my 40w2000 (DVI > HDMI) without using anydvd HD. although the card itself works fine with the tv, obviously. i dont know what the state of the dual link compat. is like though.

on your display, yes it would:)

Is that latest version? still would be interested in trying it out though I need to get a bluray dvd drive first LOL.

OCUK doing a weekend special on one ? ;)

StevenG wasn't you the guy who bought 2x 24" dells, then sold them and got a 30" dell, then sold that? Or am I mistaking you for some one else?
