Ps3 Owners Rejoice GT5P IS Released - The FM2 Curious Thread

Thank god for that, proper controls again.

WTF there is this sudden trend of mapping accelerate and brake to the triggers and then not even giving people the option of redefining them is beyond me.

Especially as trigger buttons on the whole give no feedback and have massive dead zones.

my sticks have far bigger deadzones:p

i probably would have liked forza more on the PS2/3 with the dualshock's pressure sensitive buttons, but it feels lame with triggers, especially as i like to play without drivings aids

I've been playing GT5P around at my brothers who has the same setup as Mr Lattes, proper racing frame seat/G25 1080p PJ etc.. and I have to say that graphically GT5 is superb, no doubting the models are briliiant, and the lighting is very very good.
That's not to say FM2 is rubbish graphically, from a photo mode/replay perspective it's a little disappointing.. However playing a game, bumper cam, it's still mighty impressive..

Physics wise, FM2 is for me still ahead of GT5P, specifically there seems a siight scriptedness to the handling in GT5, making it very predictable, playing back to back with FM2 with similar cars, and FM2 seems to react far more dynamically, every bump/kerb/undulation/throttle input seems to have some little effect on the handling that can make controlling the car that little more challenging..

the triggers are pressure sensitive too no?
probably more so than the ps3 buttons i would think
and probably much more like using a pedal
Triggers are analogue, like the sticks, but i dont get on with the way they work, i find it hard to brake softly with triggers, whereas i find it easy to quickly apply gentle pressure on the pressure sensitive buttons.

not to mention the xbox controller has the wost action buttons and d-pad i can remember

Exactly

Much more control using the triggers.

There really is some crazy talk on this forums.

I drive all day for a living.

Driving with triggers feels just as far removed from real driving as using the sticks.

However, using the sticks is a far better way of controlling a console driving game.

In your opinion. The majority of gamers will use triggers because they will feel it's the best, easiest and most comfortable way of playing.

In any case, surely it depends on the game and controller in question as to what is the best method? Yes the PS3 triggers are crap, but that's not to say on Forza 2 for the 360 it's the same.

And I'm not sure how driving for a living (presuming you're not a racing driver?) has any bearing on a game like GT5, where people have admitted that the physics and handling aren't totally realistic. I think most of us in here are well aware of how a proper car handles.

The advantage of the triggers is you can aply the brake while still giving full throttle. The is a big help when making your car do certain things.

No need for the pompous reply, whats eating you today? Not getting any at the minute?

Its more to do with feel than "handling" you rely on more than just your eyes when driving, its all to do with feel, you feel the car loosing traction the feedback through the wheel, the brake pedal etc etc.

NO form of control on a console, or PC, even the steering wheels come anywhere near to replicating the sensation of driving.
They dont.
However, sticks (for the sake of the small minded and petty in here) "in my opinion" offer a better method, I find the lack of control over braking using the triggers particularly awkward as you loose a lot of movement in your left thumb while operating the left trigger (I do anyway).
