Sensible price for an oil & filter change?

When I used to do this on the 306 it cost around:
£6~ genuine Peugeot filter
£15~ Peugeot supplied oil (10w40 semi)
50p sump washer

No matter how careful I was, oil always ended up on the drive/garage/road/etc. The filter was always a barsteward to remove too. I'm not sure I could be bothered to save the ~20 quid to get a garage to do it these days.

Free MOT?

Something tells me there will be something that needs doing. :p

Oh and that National advert says FROM £21. So that will be £21 for a daihatsu copen. Your car will more than probably be more.
I had a voucher to get the first MOT test paid for by the dealer I bought the car from, as long as I went to the garage across the road from him.

All that needed doing was a new O/S steering rack gaiter, so all in all my MOT cost £29. Very happy with that.

i take back what i said about doing the job yourself, just pay for someone else to do it.

i did my front discs and pads this morning, upgraded to mintex sporty things, im well impressed with the brakes but the job was a nightmare, absolutely everything was siezed up, even the passanger wheel wouldn't come off :( then by the time i fnished one side i ran out of wd-40. was very rewarding though the brakes are totally amazing :)

I used to love how easy it was to do the front brakes on the Fiat. Brembo's are ace. I could swap the pads in no time at all, and the disks were just as easy.

However, the back ones.... I'd of rather paid someone to do it.

Same, my 205's really really easy, just pop off the clips and slide the pads out. Same as the rears, although you have to wind the piston back in. Sorted :)

Mondeo steel wheels almost always bond themselves to the hub. Smear some copper grease over the hub->disc and disc->wheel faces or it will just happen again.
No word of a lie, I had to use a sledgehammer and an almighty amount of force to remove one of the rear wheels on my Mondeo and buy a replacement wheel.

How long does a garage take to change the oil and filter?

Think i might take mine in for an oil change to get a stamp in my book and do the rest myself.

is it true garages these days dont un-do the sump plug, they just stick a pipe in from up top and suck it out??

pretty much impossible I'd of thought?

I heard on here thats what Smart do (Smart Cars) because there is no drain plug sump (wtf?) But for a normal car, how would the pipe get feed all through the block to the sump? Too much stuff in the way, non?

Actually you can with some cars - Ford 5w30 form a main dealer + a filter = £20 for a Mondeo or Focus oil change.

yep cost £23 last time i did it bet its cheap and nasty oil though

I cant see it being top spec oil obviously, but surely it meets all the specs required for the engine and will be fine for 99% of normal drivers.

Yep. The longest part is waiting for the old stuff to drain out. The last oil change I did was on the 200SX, jacked it up so you can slide a drip tray underneath (90 seconds maybe?), undo the sump plug, (10 seconds), stand up and reach down into the bay and undo the old filter by hand (45 seconds)

Wait for it to drain (some cars drain fast, some don't)

Wipe off any oil that's drooled over the block (45 seconds) replace filter (20 seconds) do up sump plug, slide out drip tray, lower car (60 seconds) fill oil (30 seconds)

DONE
