2008 Bahrain GP - Race 3/18

And the current bunch aren't?

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the current cars really aren't what I'd call pretty.

The current crop of cars are incredibly bad looking IMO. Not enough size difference between front and rear tyres, they look overtyred in general, too much front camber, dihedral noses were never things of beauty, complex wings and covered in aerodynamic winglets and spats, awkward shaped cowling over the airbox.

EDIT:

Pretty car

Well yeah, good point. The new rules will turn the cars from 6 pinters to 10 pinters...

Edit: Watching the LMS on Motors TV. The new Lola Aston P1, now thats a nice looking car.. Actually, all LMS/ALMS cars look nicer than F1 cars

Thats what an F1 car should look like... I like it a lot.

Current cars have too many aero bits bolted on them, here, there and everywhere!

Roll on next year I say.

Im still unsure about the Alonso / Hamilton thing. From a brief couple of replays on ITV coverage, it looks like Hamilton just gets better traction out of the corner and catches himself out.

Exactly what I said.
If it had not been Alonso, this discussion would've been non-existant.

Of course it would be non-existant. No one cares about Alonso's championship prospects since he is with a crap team and has no chance anyway. But today's incident has clearly knocked Hamilton back a few steps in the championship race... that's why people are making a big deal out of it.

Same reason Button's retirement barely gets a mention. He just isn't in contention anyway.

I like all the winglets and Different over and under style front wings, It gives me something to look at and compare between cars when the race gets boring:p

Going to have to find something else to do on a sunday afternoon next year then....

I think you misunderstood what I said :P

I meant that if the other culprit driver was not Alonso i.e. say Sato or Davidson or someone else, this issue wouldnt have been talked about.

I.e. Given the bad history between Hamilton and Alonso, Alonso was immediately accused of brake testing.

Actually a similar thing happened later on during the race between Nelson Piquet Jr and another driver (I think a Toro Rosso). The Toro Rosso was behind the Renault out of the first corner and managed to get better traction that the Renault infront, and started to gain at a dramatic rate, the difference was that the Toro Rosso driver BRAKED before slamming into the back of the Renault, exactly the same situation. If I can find the footage of this, ill post a linky!

Dont get me wrong, if its a choice between Hamilton or Alonso for the win Id go with Hamilton anyday... but the fact that he is a British Driver with British commentators probably further fuels the argument (which is natural).
Even Brundle was about to get out of his seat, but managed to stay calm and collected about it.

I know Alonso can be an idiot, but hes a two time world champion and by brake testing during the race, he would not only damage his car, but make his bosses unhappy, not to mention the sponsers investing millions into Renault F1. I dont think Alonso is that stupid to cause such malicious intent.

Hmm looks like he denies any malicious intent.

Fernando Alonso refused to make too much about his run-in with Lewis Hamilton in the opening stages of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Hamilton crashed into the back of Alonso's Renault, damaging his rear wing. The McLaren driver was forced to pit and eventually finished the race in 13th place.

There have been suggestions that Alonso brake-tested his former team-mate, but Alonso didn't see anything sinister about the incident.

"The McLaren was just a lot faster than my car and he crashed into me," the Renault driver Spanish network Telecinco.

Alonso came through the accident with minimum damage.

"There was some damage to the rear wing, but the car wasn't handling too badly compared to practice and qualifying. It was more or less the same so I don't think I could have done much more," he said.

I know I could easily check on this to confirm it, but am I right in thinking that BMW are still leading the constructors championship? I make it 30 points that they should have, Ferrari would be on 29, McLaren on 28.

If so....it'd be great if they could continue taking the fight to Ferrari and McLaren. We may even get a BMW win this year :)

I forgot to say earlier, Webber got 2 more points \o/

Maybe his luck has finally turned?:p

And yep BMW are winning:)

Yes BMW one point ahead.

BMW must be chuffed to finish 5 and 8 seconds behind Massa. Plus Kubica only pitting a few laps before the Ferraris so a good quali performance. Very impressed by their progress. A win this year might be on the cards for them.

Undoubtedly!
But apparently Ferrari heavily turned down their engines at the end cause its their second engine race weekend whereas the Beemers were on their first.

This will ofcourse not be the case in Spain :D

Cant believe we have to wait 3 weeks now :(

BMW put in a great performance today. I loved how they kept Heikki at bay. Sadly they did'nt have enough pace to match the Ferrari's.

Fair play to Hamilton with his statement, good to hear that the Alonso thing has'nt gone any further. I still think that Hamilton was caught out and Alonso was'nt to blame.

Hamilton response, it seems he was caught unawares methinks.

As I said before a plain racing incident - whatever people think of Alonso I doubt he would have done anything to jeopardize both his and Hamiltons race or even life by doing something that stupid - especially something so easily discoverable...

Hamilton just keeps on showing his inexperience that when something small goes wrong it escalates into another incident that effectively ruins his race. He will get better, and thats when he will be worthy of the world championship...

ps3ud0
