Tamiya Mclaren kit in progress

Loved the MP4/5. One of the most perfectly designed F1 cars ever.

Got a kit of that somewhere - never got round to building it. Same with the Lotus 25, 49, 72D, 78, 99T, 102B, 107B - I need time, space and patience to do them.

This is looking like a cracker of a build though. Have fun.

I was going to recommend hiroboy.com as he sells a lot of stuff for automotive modellers.

His zero paints are good, but the paint is pre-thinned and goes off in the bottle too quickly. He reckons you can just re-thin them, yet to try it.

I've been to see Steve before, the paints are mixed up from Lechler BSB bases. Same as a bodyshop would use to paint a real car!

You could use either Lechler's own thinners but Mr Leveling thinner works just ace. :)

Looks very good so far. I've built a few cars, including that kit, over the years. I mostly build armour at the moment which is very different.

The last car I built was this Revell 1/24 Sauber

and here it is next to my ipod to give an idea of size.

Were you at Cosford today Skii, as I saw a Britmodeller stand there?

Wish I had the skill to paint like that tank, and had the ability to do something like the F1 car without cocking it up

Unfortunately I wasn't mate - I'd have loved to have been there but I've got a kitchen to finish - I have a finished TSR2 to display which would have been very apt for Cosford :(

Hope you enjoyed it .

thanks again chaps :D

Superb details and an excellent job. How much time do you spend with these under a modeller magnifying glass?

Just the naked eye mate - I find magnifying glasses impossible to work with and don't give any perception of depth - like shutting one eye !

thanks guys ;)

Nope, I can’t work with magnifying lenses either. I just use my eyes, tweezers for the very small intricate details.

It might surprise some of you to hear this, but building a model can be very relaxing, and can help unwind from a stressful day. I don’t know if it’s the fumes from epoxy or super glues, or paint but building models like this can really relax me.

Skii, are you like me and got more un-built kits then actually built? My attic is crammed with model kits.

Monkey Puzzle, you can buy highly detailed scale F1 cars in kit form for £150 +, but they aren’t plastic kits. They are more likely to be kits that you construct from various materials, such as resin, white metal and metal turned parts, using brass tubes, wires and the smallest screws you’ll ever see. The 312 F1 I posted is such a kit.

oh yes - most of them started and not finished as well

1/20 Rothmans 962C - 25% done
1/72 Tornado IDS - unstarted
1/32 Tornado ECR - unstarted
1/72 Tu-22 Blinder - unstarted
1/72 Lightning T5 - 10% done
1/48 BAE Hawk - 25% done
1/72 B-2 Stealth - 20% done
1/72 Apache - 20% done

...must not buy any more :o

You’re like me, I start projects then never seem to finish them. Somewhere, the motivation or desire to continue fades, and something else catches my eye. I have a website of sorts with all my completed models, so I tend to post them there and it gives some sense of achievement, quick question though..

I looked over your progress thread on britmodeller (BTW everyone, if you want to see more detailed progress of this build, take on a look on there – fantastic) but you said zero clear wasn’t as good. Reasons for this? I tried the 2k clear, and it was a royal pain to mix the activator into the clear – and it smelt bad, even my respirator struggled to cut it out. So I got some 1k zero clear at the weekend. Haven’t used it yet, wondering if I should… lol

Ah seen that one before -

1/72 Lancaster (Hasegawa)

That is excellent craftmanship. All of them are, you've got talent, think I said that last time you posted the 1/72 Lancaster (Hasegawa) on here, quite a while back I think.... ;)
