am i the only person who finds it near impossible to fit these wonderful things into the board? this is the third 6600 im fitting now and every time ive fitted one, it's been a hassle to get all the pins to fit.
i'm talking about the pins that fasten the heatsink to the board.

here's a pic(not the same heatsink)

have i missed a trick somewhere?

You need to press quite firmly and you should hear them click in place. And make sure the black knobs are facing the right way (take note from instructions, use the indentation on the top as a guide).

I fitted one of these the other day.
i was abit worried about pushing too hard otherwise i would crack the board!
but you do need to give it some force.
make sure you support the board directly underneath the holes so it takes some pressure off.

I had serious problems with the AC freezer 7. It really did hurt my thumbs, got my mate to get some of the clips in for me as my thumbs got too sore lol!

i fitted a ninja mini last week and i had to push down that hard on the pins the girlfriend had to lock them in for me.

i wonder if the designer has 3 hands?

Hate the blooming things!

Am always worried about snapping the motherboard and crushing the cpu when I lock it down. Don't get that problem with waterblocks thank god. Just a few bolts/screws. Much more sensible.

TBH its pretty easy if you know how they work, difficulty can come when mothebroard manufacturers get the hole allignment out by half a mm causing extra pressure to be exterted in order to get it on.

Hate them, which is why I have switched to a bolt-based cooler instead.

Thermalright XP 120 + 775 retention bracket, should cool very well :)

I'm not sure whether i'm just not putting enough force on them or something.
Like what has been mentioned before - i don't want to snap either the board or something on the cooler itself.

I gave up last night after a half hour of hurting thumbs. Surely I must be doing something wrong!

If your pins are not fully extended and lined up correctly it will be near impossible to get them in without a lot of grief

goes more smoothly if you are very precise in following the instructions, the pins are all set just so and you turn the pins them the right way (they are marked)

Not an intuative or robust system for those of us who regularly mount and dismount these things IMHO

I completely agree.

Are you pushing them in rather than twisting? At first I was twisting, before realising you were meant to push..

they are amazing the best fastening methos by far. i used to hate others more scary methods. the one wer eyou pushd the clip down with falt bladed scrwewdriver was a scary one lol. the amount of pressure required on *** arm of the s939 cooler i fitted was also scary.

my acrtic pro 7 4 push pins fitted in about 30 seconds. just do opposite corners first not 2 on one side.

Athlon / socket 462? Getting them on wasn't too bad - you could clip it on with your fingers alone if you pushed hard enough. It was getting the clips off that I always found to be hassle.
