Record Ronaldo Bid

Was Zidane a better player?
He was undoubtedly a better passer, but he was slower, less skillful and less dynamic.

IMO he was, there's no way Ronaldo is more skillful, Zidane was about as slow as Sami Hyypia yet he could still dribble past 3 or 4 players with ease, thanks to his skill. He was also the most two footed player you'll ever see and I don't think there's ever been a anyone who could control a football as well as he could.

He also turned up in the big games :p

Are we talking skillful as in football skills? If so, then I'm sorry, Ronaldo IS more skillful.
Zidane was a great player at his peak when he was bought for £50m. Ronaldo isn't even there yet, on potential alone he's worth more.

I would not be shocked if £150 million was offered. Ronaldo is easily the greatest player i've ever seen, even surpassing Maradonna! What would shock me is if UTD sold him at any price, he is that good. I'm a big Liverpool fan and i reckon that if we were lucky enough to have him, Ronaldo would be the difference that finally wins us the title!

Zidane undoubtedly has the finest control and first touch ever, it was incredible, as was his strength. I wouldn't necessarily say he was any more two-footed than Ronaldo though.

When you're talking about the best players of the last 10-20 years, Zidane is easily in the top 3, however, so is Ronaldo.

He also turned up in the big games :p
lol, I hate you! :p

I think Ronaldo needs at least 1 more season to prove his worth...all fine and dandy saying he's the best player this season, but its consistency that matters TBH

He's been pretty consistent to be fair. He was also the best player in England last season as well.

Zidane said how good Scholes was/is, Scholes says Ronaldo is the best player he has ever played with

Ronaldo is on another planet sometimes but until he wins a couple of International tournaments and puts in performances like ZZ did then i dont think hes better

There is always time with Ronaldo and tbh he is ****ing great and will only get better

i wouldn't put him up there with zidane yet personally. think he's already matched 'dinho and is swiftly catchingn up to the real/fat Ronaldo in terms of phenomenon status. not quite up there yet though but as has been said he's only a nipper he's going to improve. oh and he still has a way to go to get into the top player of all time contention.

heh we can be quite funny as United fans, we're never satisfied we spend 18 months putting forward the case that he's the best player in the world and as soon as people start to concede that we don't rest on our laurels it's straight onto arguing him into top players of all time. :)

Ronaldo worth more than twice Zidane? Giraffe-tastic.

He's a great player who scores goals, makes goals, can dribble, use both feet and is good in the area. But Zidane has won the world cup, he's won the euro champs, he's won the champions league, he's been world player of the year three times. And when I say HE won them, I mean that, he delivered on the big stages. Heck, even a week or so before he retired and past his best, he singlehandedly knocked the reigning champions out of the last world cup in the quarterfinal.

Maybe in 6 years or so I can sit down and pass judgement on whether he's bettered Zidane. But for me the true greats deliver consistently over a long period, whereas Ronaldo has only really been doing so for a couple of years.

edit: Oh, and as for the skill thing. I don't care what anyone says, you can't get better technique than this, on a bigger stage than this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=a4TDwSTA6DY . Not bad for the 'wrong' foot :)

He's not better than Zidane. He's the best in the world right now but ZZ at the top of his game was on another level entirely.

£100m is an awful lot of money but it isn't outside the realms of possibility. Real certainly have the cash (or at least the backers) to make the bid.

I can't honestly see the Glazers turning that money down unless Taggart offers his job over it. They can't be stupid enough to see him walk over it.

No club would turn down £100m for any player. Even if Fergie did threaten to leave i don't think that would change any decision especially when you consider that he's going to be retiring in the next 3 years or so.

Not that any of that matters though, Real wouldn't make an offer even close to that as they simply can't afford it. It's going to be a while before you see Real breaking world record transfer fees again.

I also doubt Ronaldo would want to leave yet (pretty sure he'd like to move in 4-5 years though) however like wedgie says, the lure of Real can make players make stupid decisions.

I don't see how Real wouldn't be able to afford it. They can afford any player.

[edit]Unless, that is, the royal family have declared disinterest in bankrolling them any more

actually considering Reals backers they're probably one of the clubs most affected by the drop out in the sub prime markets and resulting uncertainty.

They haven't been getting any outside backing for a few years now.

That could possibly change again but there has been no sign since around the time Beckham joined.

You think that affects the Spanish Royal Family and their disposable income/cash?

They haven't needed it. As I understand it they're running debt-free since their training ground was re-zoned.

Anything that comes from the Spanish press I'd personally say to anyone take it with a pinch of salt.
