The next Gen thread - R700 and GT200

Then I don't understand your point, there called launch prices, there always high

Yes i know, but you said a slightly higher clocked 8800 GTS 512mb should be a premium price over a lower clocked one (yes it should be a bit more, but not £100+ more, which a slightly higher clocked 8800 GTS 512mb was when it came out).

Another example of your logic, look at the BFG 8800 GT OC, its only £135, now by your logic the OC2 should be £235 as its slightly clocked more, but its not, as as you can see here, its only £146

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-053-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1008

Now do you see why the slightly higher clocked 8800 GTS 512mb (9800 GTX), shouldn't have been £100+ more, as your logic would have had the 8800 GT OC2 there at £235, not £146, as its also the same card, but clocked slightly higher than it. :p

All i can go by is OcUK's prices (due to competitor pricing rules), which were £100+ more over the top of the slightly lower clocked 8800 GTS 512mb's when they were launched.

Now we all know the 9800 GTX is just an 8800 GTS 512mb with a slightly higher clock in the memory/shaders dept., so does that mean it should have been £100+ more expensive than a slighly lower clocked 8800 GTS 512mb, no of course not, as i have shown above its not, with my GTS/GT examples, 8800 GT OC = £135, OC2 (the slightly clocked more one) = £146, now thats a difference of only £11, not £100+, which is what Shocky is saying they should be, as according to him, it should be £235+ for the OC2 as its the same card, just slightly clocked more.:)

Yeah he did, also Hex bought a 9800 GTX, but luckily for him he didn't get rid of his first one (8800 GTS 512mb), so he is now sending his second back, as theres no point in him having a second 8800 GTS which cost him more when he's already got one. :)

Yeah he did, and luckily for Hex, he kept hold of his first 8800 GTS 512mb when he got his second one (9800 GTX), and last i heard he was sending it back, and just sticking with the first one he bought as he found out fist hand they were the same cards. :)

He wanted a better overclock I think as some are hitting some pretty nice clocks. He got one that wasn't performing as well as quite a few I've seen so far.

You’re being ridiculous, all I said it's fair to charge more or a premium for a higher clocked card with better cooler based on current prices, not the silly launch prices or £100 extra, you really have a warped way of thinking.

Well hes not stupid and am sure he bought it knowing exactly what he was getting so he was hardly being conned.

Only now have you said the £100+ extra was silly.:)

The GTX cooler is also the same one as on the GTS though, its just longer than it is on the GTS, as the 9800 GTX's PCB is longer, as both coolers are the length of the PCB's.

G92 GTS were £235ish AT OcUK at launch and the GTX £270.

I think Azza paid £175 for the GTX.

£160.15 to be precise. :)

Sorry if it has been posted already but I canny be bothered reading through this whole thread as prolly only 5 posts relate to the topics, any who...

Some guys on XS have been spouting around specs for GT200. Clicky

1 billion transistors
512bit bus
32 ROPs
1GB framebuffer
GDDR3 somewhere in between 1000-1100MHz

Ill wait and see until official specs are released though.

Still early to tell but considering Nvidia/ATIs past looks like there on the refreshes wagon for sure.

Wouldnt be shocked if that was the case considering in 10-13 weeks time were gonna be seeing a new range of cards from both parties.

I cant see new gen cards coming in July as they are still releasing refreshers, and still have some to come, now why would they waste their time (and money) doing all these 9800's, if in a matter of what could be days (by the time the last 8800 series refresh card appears), they all get canned for new gen, and i can't see new gen cards being called the 9900's, that to me says its a refresh of the 9800's, like the 9800's was a refresh of the 8800's, as new gen will be a totally different number, they wouldn't just change 1x single digit again. :)

Afraid not, 9900's are the 65nm 9800's (which in turn are the old 90nm 8800's from 2006 shrunk down) they slinging out now, but shrunk again to 55nm, they want to get their 2006 8800's transferred onto the 55nm as quick as possible, as the 65nm's they on now are to hot.:)

Loads please can you provide some sources for this info for me to look at asap. :)

Ive been told the GT200, will come in two flavours.. a GTS style version and a GTX. ;)

GTS - 512bit with 1gb of GDDR4
GTX - 1024bit with 2Gb of GDDR4

and that two moths after release there will be a refresh of the GTS with GDDR5 and a month after that the GTX will come in a GDDR5 flavour. Mem speeds in the GDDR5 cards is apparnelty going to be 2000mhz and above. :D
