Resistance 2 info OMG!!! ( if true)

I'll need to seriously finish the first one....Can't even remember where i got to, i got very bored though :o

Listening to this weeks 1UpYours podcast though, someone mentioned "achievement" points being in it like Uncharted?.......WTF?....Was it patched?

Blimey, it was in jest... but the underlying hype machine comments still stand..

So basically, they've double up the headline numbers, 60 player online, 8 coop and 2 campaigns, and OMG, it must be twice the game! ;)

60 players online, IMO is too much for todays internet infrastructure, even with dedicated servers, I stay away from 60 player PC game maps, I usually prefer 30-40, lag seems to be more tolerable, and that's with a 1 MB upstream connection..
8 Player co-op, I enjoyed 2 player co-op in crackdown, I less enjoyed 4 players in Halo, there was always 1 person just not coordinating with the rest of us, getting 8 people co-ordinated is a logistical nightmare..
2 campaigns, that's welcome, of course, but plenty of games let you play 'either' side which gives you two campaigns..

I do like the screenshots, they are excellent.. but I know full well that like RFOM/HALO and many others, the final game will just feel like it fell short when all you've had for months is in-engine PR shots....

This does look a good game, it will look much better then RFOM, and I will probably buy it.. but I won't for one minute trust any company that gives in-engine PR shots out and hails it as the second coming...

Sorry if you thought i was having a go i wasnt, i was just stating that the hype was not from the screenshots more from the what the game was bringing to the table and also a 2008 release date, this was breaking news at the time and before no other info had been available. The two campaigns are different one is a SP / 2 player co-op game based round Nathan Hale, and the other a squad/class based co-op with heavy weapons guys, special forces guys etc, not just a play through from the respect of another character ala Kane and lynch, but a different story line (may possible connect with SP in some way though).

No, they were always there, little challenges for you to achieve. You didn't get points on a profile or anything like that.

Yea as smalls said, the list of additions is what's building the hype. Demon, it sounds like there's more going into the SP and MP than just 60 player servers ;)

In any case, the first game's main problems were: poor graphics and poor gameplay (the first half anyway). The screenshots show they fixed the first problem; now they need to focus on gameplay.

I particularly like the sound of this
EDIT 15: AI getting a lot more attention.. will scaled on-the-fly to players perspective and viewpoint... aka enemies closer to the player will actually have more sophisticated AI routines than those further away. assailants in your direct field of view received heightened intelligence. easily more cunning than before

I do appreciate your threads, you do seem to take a very active interest in the news, I and for one don't have that much time to keep abreast of things, and use this forum as one of my main places for info..

I know your initial comments where on the game features and not the screenshots, In a weird way when reading the bullet points, I could just hear this OMGI voice in my head reading it out Chad Warden Stylee... not a reflection on you, just amusing to myself that they'd somehow managed to just double the 'key' numbers on everything... and cynically couldn't help think it's the usual PR hype machine in full spin... something that seems par for the course these days, on all platforms!..

Problem with that is, what about a sniper rifle? Could just pick off enemies from miles away and they would be sat there picking their toes.

[Disclaimer] I know the devs wouldn't be stupid enough to implement a system that dumb, but it would be amusing.

I think it's a case of seeing how it pans out.... I wouldn't expect miracles, the best demo of AI I've seen was the gamer.tv preview of uncharted, it looked amazing when demo'd, but having completed the game, I can't remember a single instance where I noticed all that effort that went into the AI over any other game I'd played.. I was too busy just enjoying the 'ride'..

busy playing the first one now, i think its great, especially as you can get it for £15 now. I'm enjoyin this in SP more than i did Cod4, geraphics aren't as good but for me its a better game all round.

Mate came round tonight with his copy, man, can't remember it looking so good! Looked superb and was extremely hectic on the level i left it on before i traded my copy in.

Hard is the only way to play it! O, and the DS3 is awesome in this game!

Josh

EDIT - when is 2 planned for release? Hoping end of the year!

you wont be forced into 60p games, thats just the upper limit.

Teaser trailer up now

Im no expert, but it doesn't look right for CGI and Insomniac dont do cgi. Look at the ratchet and clank teaser it looked the same as the gameplay, now im not saying its gameplay but rather in engine, it seems to be a massive jump over what they did with resistance 1. Anyway roll on 13th June for a real gameplay demo, if i can drag myself away from snaaaakke!

Resistance ?!

That's amazing. But too good to be in-game/in-engine...

And 19 hours to live  Wouldn't that just mean no more sequels?!

Nope not at all mate it is Insomniac and like i said they dont do CGI! If you look at some of the vistas in Ratchet and clank you will see similar amount of detail, image quality, and generally stuff going on done in the game, pretty sure with an extra year of development something like this could be done. And if it was CGI its not great CGI is it, the backgrounds look almost like a matte painting type thing and the image quality is not that good to be CGI, thats why i think its in engine. Look at killzone 2 actual gameplay footage it seems to be as good if possibly better quality than this
Back to the 19 hrs to live could be like end of the world will happen in 19hrs time unless Nathan does what ever it is he has to do lol.

Seriously looking forward to this now! Been playing through the first one again recently in co-op, classic tbh.

I hope he turns into an alien at the end then the you have start killing humans instead then the next installment could actually be Resistance: Fall of Man 2.

Hopefully this has more soul than the first one, but they have a great platform to start with and this could be a superb game if done right.

Almost finished the first one, I agree with Kreeeee. It has some nice ideas but just feels very derivative at the moment, like Gears of War meets Half Life 2 meets Call of Duty. Looking back and it just feels like theirs been very little plot, theres next to no characterization (I couldn't even remember what the British characters name was). The best thing about the game is the weapons, some very unique ideas. Im hoping they can build on this for the second one.

As long as Resistance 2 has the same atmosphere and feel of the last one-tenth of the first game, it'll be great. The first game was mediocre right up until the last parts.
