Resistance 2 info OMG!!! ( if true)

interesting bit from the devs -

"Ratchet & Clank on the PS3 uses texture streaming which allows us to get about 150 MB of extra VRAM in each level. This allows for much higher resolution textures than we used in Resistance, as well as more texture variety."

"Starting with Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction we are supporting texture streaming, which will make the worlds look even better, and will also consume even more space on disc," wrote Brian Hastings, Insomniac's chief creative officer. "With streamed textures, streamed geometry and streamed audio, even with compression, you can quickly approach 1GB of data per level."

resistance only used 10-15% of the spu's (of 5, 1 was locked off for the OS but has since been made available along with more ram), R+C doubled the spu utilisation and the devs say they have seen the same jump in performance for the 3rd gen of the engine for resistance 2.

now the hard bit is waiting til next winter.

Sorry I just re read . I am confused between Killzone and resistance. Was Killzone a PS2 game? When does Killzone 2 come out and are they comparable?

Killzone was a PS2 game (a crap one at that)
Killzone 2 will be out this year, probably around november time. Though a lot may depend on when Resistance 2 comes out.

I think we'll see Resistance 2 in November, and if Sony have any brains they will delay Killzone 2 until March 09.

R2 will be another November release for Insomniac. I am hoping we might see KZ2 in the late summer, but we will see when the public Beta is announced and scheduled what a rough timeline is.

Omg, this happens to me like 4 times a day.

*hides in corner crying*

I am officially slow people. OFFICIALLY!!

Feel free to quote that at any time on these forums.

Surely you mean like not unlike? :p

Never had lag on PC games, unless I joined a server with 300+ pings, but why on earth would I do that when theres always tons of <100 ping servers available. :D

in truth i meant CSS where people just constantly moan about hitboxes etc , everyone using different rates

on resistance and other console FPS it seems you always actually hit someone when you shoot them

busy playing the first one now, i think its great, especially as you can get it for £15 now. I'm enjoyin this in SP more than i did Cod4, geraphics aren't as good but for me its a better game all round.

You have got to admit that the screenies look damn fine..

However, and this applies on both sides of the fence, as soon as anyone starts publishing these clearly statically rendered 'in-engine' shots, with massive resolution, massive textures and immense AA, alarm bells start ringing and I know that the actual game is going to not quite live upto expectation..

The same can be said of Halo3 if we want to balance the argument.. the in-engine renders looked very very promising.. the actuality was decent, but clearly not what was expected..

I blame the modern yoof culture.. the weak minded fools that just fall hook line and sinker when shown these type of 'screenies'..

they then go onto all the forums and put up new threads with 'OMG' in the title.. ;) (that's just a kind hearted joke btw..)

I want to see proper 'in-game' shots, that slowly improve over time, I have far more respect for companies that do this, and ultimately we don't end up that little bit underwhelmed..

If you look at all this gens Insomniacs games (RFOM and Ratchet ) the screens used as promos in the first case are pretty much the same as the final released games. As i and others have said these are higher res and with more AA and AF than in game, but for me its the models and the design that impress me, and the fact they can produce games of high quality every year with a good degree of improvement over there previous "same" gen games.
As i response to your OMG, i know your comment was in jest, but it has nothing to do with the screen shots more to do with the features in this game, if you read the first post you will see why. As a quick recap it was the 60 player online battles, 8 player co-op, 2 different campaigns, random levels and all the other features that deserved my week minded-ness not some very nice screenshots :)

Blimey, it was in jest... but the underlying hype machine comments still stand..

So basically, they've double up the headline numbers, 60 player online, 8 coop and 2 campaigns, and OMG, it must be twice the game! ;)

60 players online, IMO is too much for todays internet infrastructure, even with dedicated servers, I stay away from 60 player PC game maps, I usually prefer 30-40, lag seems to be more tolerable, and that's with a 1 MB upstream connection..
8 Player co-op, I enjoyed 2 player co-op in crackdown, I less enjoyed 4 players in Halo, there was always 1 person just not coordinating with the rest of us, getting 8 people co-ordinated is a logistical nightmare..
2 campaigns, that's welcome, of course, but plenty of games let you play 'either' side which gives you two campaigns..

I do like the screenshots, they are excellent.. but I know full well that like RFOM/HALO and many others, the final game will just feel like it fell short when all you've had for months is in-engine PR shots....

This does look a good game, it will look much better then RFOM, and I will probably buy it.. but I won't for one minute trust any company that gives in-engine PR shots out and hails it as the second coming...
