DFI LT X48-T2R Review

That's very interesting, and thanks for posting it. As I have the board, I skipped the first bit, and had a look at your overclocking stuff.

I have to be honest, I've been struggling to get a decent stable overclock out of this board with my E8400. I know this CPU is good for 4.5GHz stable in a P35 board but I'm finding it hard to get 4GHz on this one. I have water-cooling on everything except the Southbridge, so cooling shouldn't be an issue.

You are recommending much lower GTL numbers than the BIOS defaults to for 45nm CPUs, can I ask where you got that info from? Also the VC0 Divider information.

I can't help but think this motherboard can do much better, but I'm too ignorant of what the options do to get the best out of it.

Any suggestions would be gladly welcomed.
 
That's what I was afraid of. In the past my experience with DFI kit was small clusters of super-users jealously guarding their close-contact with DFI engineers, but ultimately not that helpful to the rest of us.

Thats why im sharing it with everyone... Publishing it as a review on the net is hardly what I would call guarding it :confused:
 
Yes good review :) However the links you provided are riddled with competitors, even the best price part you have mentioned their biggest competitor, probably best posting the review in this thread rather then linking to it.

I'm using the Swiftech chipset block. I'm thinking of getting one for the Southbridge too, as despite what everyone else says, mine is very hot to the touch.

There's sharing, and then there's sharing. It shouldn't have to be dribbled out through personal contacts. The DFI design team should write a proper manual that explains what all the options do. WHY is the best GTL setting 75-85 for a 45nm CPU? And if that's the best value for a 45nm CPU why does it default to 110? What exactly does the VC0 divider do?

I wasn't having a pop at you, but rather at the people who build boards with millions of adjustments then don't tell anyone what they all actually do. I first saw GTL on an ASUS P5K, and I still have no real idea what it actually does.

I can't help but think a little more comprehension of what the adjustments actually do would help all of us enormously.

I have to agree. I briefly had a DFI board once (before a Hiper took it out when it blew up :mad:) and some of the bios options were mind boggling. Now it looks even more confusing. It would be nice to know, even if it did'nt go into great detail, just what all these setting actually do.

Really? Mines super cool(tho have a 80mm fan on it). The thing that gets too hot are the PVM's even tho reseated and put stronger springs in (really needs a water block). I find I only need 1.365V through NB to get 3.8ghz stable on my Q6600 tho:p
 
I understand where both of you are coming from, however... I would say has anyone ever seen what you are asking for from any other motherboard manufacturer?

In my experience the only information available for clocking motherboards usually comes from the people brave enough to buy a new board, play around with it for ages and post their findings...

I find it kind of refreshing that DFI allow access to their engineers by power users so that these things can be ironed out faster :)
 
What you say is partially correct in that most motherboard manuals are a bit thin on technical detail, but then very few other motherboard manufacturers put this many options in the BIOS. It does need a thorough explanation in my opinion. Even if it added £15 or £20 to the cost of every motherboard, they do need to employ a good technical author to write the how-to section on overclocking this beast.

Yeah i got a fan on mine now to keep temps down but would rather whack a block on it :)

Would you be able to tell me what other voltage settings you are using? Mine currently running at 450x8, so 3.6ghz, my board passed prime95 for 16 hours but im getting crashing in games :confused:

Could it be my PVM's over heating causing the crashes?

My bet would be the GTL settings... I have found that the 45nm Chips are particularly effected by the GTL settings and a lot of stability can be found by tweaking them. See the bios OC settings in my review ;)
 
Hey guys, I'm the owner of Digital Report and Mike just told me he posted it here.

I know OcUK are 'sensitive' about competitors, but as OcUK don't stock the mobo, is it still a problem?
