Whats your favourite martial art / form of fighting?

Did you used to play Kingpin?

Yeah, was one of my first and fav PC games, along with the likes of Duke Nukem 3D and Blood / Blood II.

Worringly I was sorta hooked on the brutality of it all, the way you could speak to people, and create your own gangs. Not forgetting the quality Cypress Hill soundtrack :)

I was 11 years old. :o

why has no one mentioned ninjutsu?

clearly the best fighting form as its main theory is - win by any means necessary. If you can avoid a fight altogether and win then fair enough. Be sneaky, cheat, lie, backstab as long as you win who cares?

It also teaches you how to be awesome at life.

(this reply is both comedic and serious at the same time.)

Boxing without a shadow of doubt. Having sparred for a number of years (although not recent, been busy with uni+other commitments) it's a very rewarding sport/form of self-defence.

From what I've seen out in Manchester the guy who wins nearly every fight is the one who's opening move is to smash the other round the head with a bottle before starting :)

If you don't see it coming then I guess there's not a lot you can do, but if you do, and know how to deal with it, then it's no problem.

I did systema for a few months (then the class stopped :( ) Of all the martial arts, it seems the easiest to transfer to "real-life" situations.

That's funny, I've been told that it takes a very long time before you actually become familiar enough with it to be able to use it. That's what my Krav Maga instructor said anyway, and he knows people who're very good at it. Krav is certainly one of the quickest to learn and actually become applicable in real life, though.

yup most of the time they have been to the back of the head. or just a tap on the shoulder then as they turn around to see who it is blamo...

Well that's like expecting a martial art system to save you from being hit by a car or something :p

no, it's like expecting a fighting system to help you in a realistic British fight ;)

Hardly ever see a fight start here without a sucker punch/blow/weapon blow being the first hit.

If you're in an environment where that kind of thing is gonna happen you should be on your guard in the first place. If you get caught unaware then nothing's going to help you, that's just a fact of life.

However, any decent fighting system will teach you situational awareness and how to deal with and play down confrontations before they escalate.
